new hires and anyone that bids to the 320 series. any pilot in the 320 category can fly the 319/320/321.

signed, a 757/767 pilot.

OKay, so, the answer is that, they hired a bunch of new pilots, because, if they take current A319 & A320 pilots to fly the A321s, they won't have enough pilots to fly the A319s & A320s!

that goes for every fleet almost with the mandatory retirement attrition. new hires are going to the 88, 717, 737, 757/767, 319/320321. The only fleets not getting new hires are the 767-400, 330, 350.

Why are you separating the A321 and 320/319's? They are a common type and the pilots are mixed and fly all 3 types.

I'm not. I'm just saying that, if they take pilots from the pool of A319/320 pilots to fly the A321, there won't be enough pilots to fly the A319/320.

Apolloms answered by saying they have a bunch of new hires.

That's certainly no secret. The 757 and MD's are the only aircraft left with any sort of character. The rest is just a bunch of boring tubes with wings.

Right but you stated that the 757s are better suited to routes like ATL-MCO. Why?

A few weeks ago during a schedule change Saturday, my ATL-JAX/JAX-ATL legs in January were switched from A321s to 757-200s. I ended up switching the outbound to ATL-TPA, which puts me back on an A321. While down the road I will probably care less about an A321 versus the 757, I have yet to fly on a DL A321 and want to fly it at least once to cross off the fleet type so I'm happy that I was able to get the A321 on ATL-TPA.

The 757's amazing short runway performance is really needed at an airport that's a former B-52 and Strategic Air Command Base with 12,000 foot runways.

They have the most capacity of the domestic fleet and the 2L door allows for faster boarding. FL also experiences frequent bad weather and the 757 can punch through it much more quickly.

The 757 can out climb the 737 and A320 and get above the nasty weather faster. The 757 provides more than just a fun takeoff, it's performance has practical benefits as well.

There are still 747s flying elsewhere in the world and A380s and they both have character. Granted the 380 is butt ugly on the outside, but it still has character.

If they would just add 2KU Wi-Fi to all the 757's I would be ecstatic (I know they are working on it). Best plane in Delta's fleet!
