As a nuclear physics type of person, I was thinking of the same thing. While plutonium has its uses, the health safety aspects are daunting. Plus, think of all the times you will pop up on a government watchlist by talking about Pu all the time...

$1,452 surely doesn't contribute much to the approximate $40B of Delta revenue.

Reprising this thread...

It looks like each Medallion tier is a combination of the two tiers (MQM and MQD) before it:

GM = Silver + Silver
PM = Gold + Silver
DM = Platinum + Gold.

While I'm a big fan of the $250K DM MQD waiver (or eliminating the waiver for DM altogether), I think it would be great if DL would introduce another PUBLISHED (i.e. NOT D360) using the same formula: Maybe a "Black Diamond" or just "Black Medallion" tier (because everyone likes to have a good BM).

BM = Diamond + Platinum

200,000 MQMs
$24,000 MQDs
NO AMEX Waiver, or $250K

I think it would help scrub a lot of rollover MQMs as well. My biggest gripe is "losing" the $20K+ in MQDs once the clock strikes twelve on 31DEC.

So your stats are 200,001 MQMs and $24,001 MQDs?

Of course. ;-)

Ever-so slightly more serious, I'm simply using DL's "logic" in their Medallion qualifications to create the next "logical" tier. It's less arbitrary and seems to fit their model nicely. I would think most flyers really dislike losing all of those excess MQDs over $15K every year. I know there are obviously reasonable limits (which may be much higher), but I presume many DMs here would welcome a new tier with open arms.

Instead of making changes to DM requirements (which is a good thing, but not good enough, IMHO), why not just introduce a new PLUTONIUM Medallion tier? D360 is too random and clandestine, so instead of relying on an invite-only tier, why not set a new level for the above-Diamond flyer?

I'm sure this isn't a new suggestion, by any means, but I'd like to see a published Delta Medallion tier that is something like 200,000 MQMs and $25,000 MQDs. That gives unlimited automatic Global Upgrades above Diamond+GUC. Maybe even 250,000 MQMs + $30,000 MQDs (which, conveniently, is about where I am ;-)

That sounds reasonable, and would provide us with a TRULY "Elite" flyer status. The herd is just too thick in DM, even with the new $250K waiver.

What thinkest thou?
I agree. While they are at it, they should get rid of silver and possibly gold tiers.

Wouldn't a Plutonium Tier be the domain of Aerofloat ?

I disagree. You need to give hope to the rabble or they tend to revolt -- just ask Louie and Marie.
