I am going to dump the card I think. $250K spend for a waiver is beyond absurd. They should have at least given credit for x amount of spend (like $1K for every $10K). I am sure I am not the only card holder who won't hit the spend threshold and resigned to just being platinum anyway (and I can hit that spend)...so why not just carry the regular Amex platinum with many more benefits (and still includes the Sky Club) for the same price?

Having said that partner biz (cheap) tickets is still the winner next year. I will spend NET $1500 for 14k MQD as well as pulling in 70k MQM/RDM. That, plus normal flights, will mean I am Diamond for 2019. Those who over spend (their employers money clearly) and those who are smart mileage runners win next year. Those are the facts.

I had a personal and business card until 2 weeks ago and dropped the personal one. The companion cert just wasn't being used enough on that alone and most times it saved $200 tops anyway (BTW, you are not saving if your buying tickets just to get the 2 for 1 ). The $250K waiver was a huge incentive to dump that card. It's also a small way to tell Delta I'm not pleased.

Admittedly I've never been Diamond, but based on anecdotal evidence and the benefits I receive as a Platinum Medallion I have always been happy staying at Platinum and rolling over miles, and the nice thing now is I don't even have to worry about hitting Diamond.
(That being said, I'm in the position this year where I have earned too many miles and may hit Diamond anyway, which means I'll have little rollover ... anyone who might want to trade a 15k MQM boost this year for one next year, let me know!).

The thread discusses other stuff besides just that, but that doesn't mean the question would be out of place there.
I understand most people probably don't want to wander through a 98-page thread if they weren't in it at the time though
I'm almost certainly dropping my DL Plat, but I also plan to be switching most of my flying over to UA this year.

I get your pain. Don't forget DELTA AMEX 25k spend (not 1/4 million) is still "A" Medallion UG tie breaker (at all levels per Delta.dumb).

Yep, flying on a partner (in particular in Biz, AreoMexico in this case) I figured was the only way gonna get DM in 2019 (I would have had the MQM's by 1 Jan 2018, but not the MQD's) so I am spending a bit more than what @Renespoints mentioned, but will also have DM for another year. There was some great deals to LIM and SCL about a week ago.
Regarding Reserve, I will keep it this coming year and see what happens later I guess.

I'm downgrading both my personal and my business to platinum delta amex cards, but I won't put any spend on them. I'm keeping them because I can come out ahead on the companion certs.
