Delta 777-200ER/LR Conversions to 7HD & 7HB. Pre-mods config is 37J/36W/218Y. For all the ERs and the first LR, post-mods config was initially 28J/48W/220Y (7HD/7HB). The post-mods config for all ERs and LRs is now 28J/48W/90Y+/122Y (7CD/7CB).

Nope. UA is taking space from E+ for PE on the 772, not J. Layout will be 50/24/202. The 763s with PE will be 46J. UA is going a completely different direction from DL on premium cabin capacity.

This is a good point. I can't remember where this was said, but for a while, Delta has been "rightsizing" their cabins according to what people will pay rather than providing upgrades to fill almost half the cabin. If you look at United's 773 layout, it appears that just about 1/2 of the aircraft is for the 60 Polaris seats and the remaining 250 - 300 passengers are squeezed into the remaining portion of the aircraft. This is the question you have to ask yourself - while I may have a better upgrade chance on UA, what price do I pay if I get forced into a 3x4x3 seat in economy OR, I may have less of a chance getting an upgrade on Delta, but at least the economy seat is more livable at 3x3x3.

Plus they will save the cost of 450 seats (25 x 18), including IFE, on the fleet. That alone is a lot of $$$, though I doubt that figured in to the decision!

My speculation:
1) Delta wants to people to think they are a "premium" airline - having 18" width Y seats across its widebody fleet helps
2) Delta has a smaller business cabin - just enough seats for people willing to pay business fares and limiting upgrades. That leaves more space on the plane for more economy rows, enabling Delta to achieve similar Y count as other 772 operators.
3) Delta decided to keep the existing Y seats, in order to avoid having to order different Y seats. Plus, Delta would only need to retrofit part of the plane instead of the entire cabin. Saves Delta time and money.

DL is keeping the same Y seats on the 777? Those seats are getting old and still have the old school IFE system which is very unreliable. It’s a big shame if DL isn’t putting new Y seats on the aircraft.

They could install new IFE & seat covers, and even cushions, but keep the frame, right?

I would be shocked if DL is leaving the old Y seats there.

Looks like the first one to be modded, N863DA, is almost ready to fly back to the US, as it is going on a test hop today:

First commercial flight seems to be 7/1. I wonder if it's just gonna sit until then. Hopefully someone gets to post a walkthru video

Internally they're saying return to service 6/15. I'd guess it hits a couple hops from SIN to DTW on the way. They'll finish 4 mods by the end of 2018 - 1 LR and 3 ER, and the rest in 2019. Since this program is considered the "mid-life upgrade", I don't see any reason they would keep the old Y seats, and I'm pretty sure they said earlier that they would be replacing every seat on the plane. There's gotta be some weight savings there.

Sounds like they might be having some internal delays here.

Just got a call from DL telling me the SYD flight that was loaded as the new 777 from April 1 was incorrect due to timing. She was calling to apologize and manage my expectations of my booking for next April and offer a refund if wanted (which I declined since this was a unicorn award booking at 94k for SYD - LAX - RDU so I'll survive with old D1).

The system has since been updated to reflect this too (seat map is back to regular 777)
