Delta 777-200ER/LR Conversions to 7HD & 7HB. Pre-mods config is 37J/36W/218Y. For all the ERs and the first LR, post-mods config was initially 28J/48W/220Y (7HD/7HB). The post-mods config for all ERs and LRs is now 28J/48W/90Y+/122Y (7CD/7CB).

Modifications are taking place at SIN and the entry and exit dates are based on SIN time (GMT + 8 hrs). Comfort + installation was done at ATL on all the 7HD>7CD conversions, and on 7106 (7HB>7CB). The remaining 9 LRs had the C + cabins installed at SIN.

Someone here at FT posted a video interview of Bastian recently, and he confirmed that DL is planning to refit the 767-300s to the new D1 standard, and those a/c are generally all older than the 777s. Their plan has seemed pretty wise from a capital expenditures standpoint, and with fuel still relatively cheap, working as a broader strategy.

I was just talking recently with a friend who isn't at all an aviation person, but flies to Hawaii 2 to 6 times per year from LAX. She said she flies Hawaiian because she wants to be on brand new A321s to Maui. Old planes make her worry. I said I was totally fine in a decades old 757 from DL, I trust their maintenance. That said, from a paxex experience, I'd welcome DL deploying 321s LAX-OGG.
Agreed. So long as the interiors get refreshed regularly, I'm happy.

You should send your friend an article about the brand new 737Max that crashed recently. The newness of the SW (and pilots unfamiliarity with it) was a contributing factor.

This. I feel safer on an older a/c flown by an airline with a good maintenance program because the've had time to work out any issues and the pilots know the a/c like the back of their hand.

Somehow I missed this thread or it never really clicked... all I can ask is Why? I have flown in the 350 D1 Suites and either I missed something or they were very underwhelming. In fact I have asked several FAs about it and they seemed to agree that the angled 777 D1 is a better plane. At first it was a novelty, but I have altered my routes to avoid the suites.

I'm guessing the FAs simply didn't want to argue. The 777 herringbone seats are not particularly popular. The semi-private suites do attract premium passengers. You're going to have to find a new airline; DL is planning to put suites on every international plane they have

QQ here that I also posted in my redemption post. I'm flying ATL>NRT in April in Delta One Suites and the metal is listed as 777 but I thought from TPG/elsewhere that this route was being refreshed on an A350. Will my metal change between now and then?

If not - any ideas on a 777 in this route? I have no doubts it will be enjoyable either way.

I got to fly on ship 7, DL121 earlier this week and really enjoyed the DLOne Suite.
I was not expecting the suite to be as roomy as I thought (in fact I thought it was going to be tight like the DLOne 763/4 seat) and appreciated the abundance of storage spaces to place objects, including that cubby hole for my shoes and the DLOne slippers. I was able to sleep on my sides, and even on my stomach very comfortably. At the end of the flight I concluded the suite is far superior to the UA Polaris Seat and NH's Business Staggered seat - far superior (loyal UA/NH customer here). Call me old fashioned, but the suite and entire reconfiguration will be received better in the 777's than the A350's. You can use the more spacious (vs the A350 lavatories) two lavatories near the entrance to the cock pit, or the other two lavatories near doors 2L/2R which I think are for Premium Select.
You loyal DL customers should be very pleased at how DLOne is progressing.
I personally just wish they would return to GUM again so that I could try the Suites again (A350 flying NRT-SEA route in March).

Anyone have any thoughts on what's going on with the only 772LR (7HB) N706DN to have been modded? It did 10 flights from 7th-26th November and then sat outside TechOps for 11 days, where I saw it on Thursday morning, and then by Friday evening, it had been moved inside. I know it could be used as a spare, but that's a lot of days sitting idle doing no revenue flights! With the two 772ERs currently being modded at SIN, and the 7HB sitting idle, that leaves the other 15 B772s still flying, but perhaps that's enough for the winter schedule?

It's plenty for the winter schedule (when you consider all the A350s also)

My great grandmother is running things, and she doesn't want the seat cushions to get spoiled too quickly.

Things were moving along quite nicely knocking out the 7HDs and one 7HB, so there appeared to be a glimmer of hope I might ride a 7HB on my trip to JNB next summer, but it is not looking good now. Will DL switch from a nearly booked legacy 772 to a 7HB causing it to be over-booked? If so, how does that work? Or will they just wait for the first opportunity in the future to avoid that situation?

You’re flying ATL-JNB next summer (S. African winter) and the 777 is almost sold out already? What date is this for?

We are going at the end of May and at present only 12 D1 seats are booked. Until you get to southern South Africa, "winter" is a relative term. At that time it is quite nice in Zambia and Botswana our ultimate destinations. It shouldn't take much longer for an additional 17 or more D1 seats to fill which would exceed capacity if a 7HB were flying that route. Still just wishful thinking.

Your OP questioned whether DL would swap a D1 suite configured plane in on a nearly booked flight to
JNB, yet now you’re saying it’s presently only 12 D1 seats booked. How is 12 nearly booked when current layout has 37 D1 seats??? That’s not even half!

And what does winter in SA vs winter in Zambia or Bostwana have to do with anything?

I have seen the angled 777 D1 seat ranked at the bottom below the 767 D1 seat. One notable review of the old style 777 lie flat seat reads: "The herringbone seat is the worst long-haul product Delta flies and is usually found on the longest-haul flights .... It’s an old product and the carrier has begun to replace it with the Delta One Suite. Every seat faces toward the aisle and is set up in a 1-2-1 configuration. They all lack any form of personal storage space, have small IFE screens and are so packed together you’ll feel like you’re sitting on the lap of the person next to you."

767 seats are only arguably better if you're at a bulkhead. Otherwise I don't see how you can say they are worse. The foot cubbies are a cruel joke for those that have anything above a size five foot - at least they're open on the top on the 777.
