It’s a DL design feature if using Aeroflot TATL on a DL SkyMiles ticket.
Those are Aeroflot YQ fees. They're known to have high YQ. Just like BA in OW. Airlines normally charge YQ for awards on partner metal if the partner requires them.

They are DL’s YQ fees for flying Aeroflot on SkyMiles tickets.

AA’s YQ fees for flying BA on AA mileage tickets are there as AA wants the YQ because the YQ money Is AA’s money, even as their TATL JV racket share; but that doesn’t apply to the DL-Aeroflot relationship in this case. This is DL’s YQ on SkyMiles tickets with Aeroflot flights.

No it's up to the partner offering the award seats. UA never charges YQ on any award, regardless of metal.

We don't know that for sure. ST might be different from *A which might be different from OW.

..and it's a moot point anyway, as the SU awards shown are all phantom availability and not really bookable anyway (will error out when trying to pay and ticket it).

What? BA charges the YQ, not AA. You have to deal with it when redeeming AS miles on BA too.

Yes, but it appears that the charging airline keeps it, as some ticketing airlines charge YQ for other airlines, other ticketing airlines do not charge YQ for the same operating airlines very same flights.

Again, that is just how it appears, that the ticketing airline keeps the YR/YQ, since it is not always consistently charged by all for the very same airlines/flights.

No.

On tickets using AA miles for itineraries that include BA flights, AA charges the YQ for those BA flights. The AA-charged YQ on AA-issued award tickets are AA’s money and add directly to AA’s revenue and ultimately its profits.

That AA later splits the AA-charged YQ for AA-issued award tickets with other airlines due to its governmentally-backed, revenue-sharing TATL JV doesn’t mean that BA charges the YQ to AA and/or AA customers for AA-issued mileage tickets. It’s AA that charges for, and directly benefits from, the YQ for those flights.

It’s not alliance-level. It’s bilateral-level, except whereby the parties are more than two and part of a government-backed, competition-immunized, revenue-sharing JV allowed the waiver and favor to collude against consumers in pricing terms too.

..... at least when done over the phone, they aren’t all phantom availability.

If the phone agent will even search for non-DL flights for you. Some have been known to even refuse to search, saying that ALL non-DL flights are phantom and thus they "won't waste time" to even search for any SkyTeam award.

SU awards, however, have been completely blocked out / blacked out for a while now.
