Does auto checkin affect no risk cancellation?

I know the 24 hr no-risk cancellation period applies all the way up until the flight but with this new automatic check-in could that void the possibility of no risk cancellation? At 2am I booked a flight for today. It looks like it will be tight for me and now seardching for flights for tomorrow the app told me I was checked in and in trying to look at flight option I had to get through the button to acknowledge banned items etc. Am I 100% safe canceling without penalty...trying to avoid a customer service call. THANKS for any insight...cant find any language referencing any effect of the new auto check-in.

I dont imagine it would. IIRC the 24 hour window is a law, checking in doesnt have any impact on that.

Technically, the "law" only requires that you allow free cancellations within 24 hours for flights that are 7 days away or further.

Ahh, i just googled it and re-read it. You are correct. However i still dont believe being checked in voids the ability to cancel. I have been checked in previously on flights and done a SDC or cancelation without issue. I cant imagine OP would have any problem.

The law has nothing to do with OP's question because the law only requires penalty-free cancellation at 7+ days and that is far outside the check-in deadline.

That said, checking in will not affect DL's policy of extending the legal requirement, but it may mean having to call in.
