Basic economy question

Sorry for the basic question. I am arriving into Baltimore at 6:30am on AS. I want to purchase a Delta basic economy ticket departing at 7:45am, with basic economy can I check in online so I don’t have to exit security or does it require I check in in person at the check in desk?

thanks !

You can check in online just like normal.

There are also Delta kiosks inside security where you can check in. You should be aware that if your incoming AS flight is delayed so that you miss the Delta flight you will lose that DL ticket entirely and have to buy a new one. This could be a problem with a regular economy ticket but the Basic Economy ticket compounds the risk.

OP will also lose the ticket if the check in deadline (usually T-30 for domestic flights but check the specific airport) is missed, even if OP can get to the gate well before the door closes.

Translating other people's posts: It is very risky, and IMO, not advisable, to purchase a basic economy ticket when you are connecting between airlines, especially with only 75 minutes to connect. If anything goes wrong, this could very quickly become very expensive.

Personally I would not risk this on any type of ticket without leaving at least 4-5 hours for the layover.

I strongly advise you to:

1) leave a longer time to connect when you are flying on different tickets

2) Buy a standard economy ticket so that if you do miss your connection, the agent assisting you has more options to help you other than selling you a walk up full priced Y ticket on a new flight.

This is plain and simple a bad idea.

OP is not connecting. He is transferring at BWI between two entirely separate tickets and journeys.

While 1:15 is OK for a connection, it is not OK for such a transfer and especially not for a transfer to a BE fare.

While most DL discounted tickets retain no value if not cancelled by the time of departure, many agents will rebook. Not so with BE.

I would allow at least 3 hours if not more between two tickets given the financial penalties.
