"G" class

Haven't come across G class on Delta before, books into Premium Economy.

Finding it on an AF codeshare DTW-CDG.

Any ideas on whether this is upgradeable to Europe and, if so, how much?

I know that Delta does all it can to obfuscate such pricing, so if anybody has any experience with this fare bucket, I'd be appreciative for any tips.

I have had a G fare code show up for me a few random times when buying domestic F

DL recently announced that P, A, and G fares (typically used for domestic First) would be used for Delta-marketed Premium Economy operated by AF and AZ effective September 25.

Thanks for this info.

Where was this announced? Was there any other info as to upgradability?

G class had been (and AFAIK still is) deep discount FC. Now it's also being used for Premium Economy and I would assume that it's the cheapest and most restrictive deep discount premium economy fare class.

Some Premium Economy AF fares can be upgraded with GUCs but the OP as a GM doesn't have access to these upgrade instruments. AFAIK it isn't yet possible to do upgrades involving Premium Economy with DL miles but since DL no longer publishes mileage upgrade charts, we really don't know.

No, you can for sure upgrade Delta A/S/W classes on AF metal (e.g. PremEcon up to Business) using SkyMiles.

Never seen "G" as PremEcon before.

Maybe I'll call in later on but doubt that I will get an agent who knows about this as it is a totally new thing in their system...

P/A/G fares are used for discount domestic F flights. DL now also uses them for Premium Select fares. Since there are no domestic Premium Select flights, this dual usage does not actually conflict. DL also started using P/A/G fares for partner Premium Economy codeshares (initially VS and more recently AF/AZ). Previously, they used W fares for PE on these partners.

A/S/W fares are used by AF for PE. If it is a DL codeshare flight on AF metal, it will have a P/A/G fare as that is what DL use for PE flights.

Thanks, the link to this bulletin is greatly appreciated...

Last month I upgraded from Premium Economy/G fare on VS to Upper Class for 20,000 SkyMiles.

The only problem I ran into was that the G fare was on the Delta Codeshare. When I upgraded, my reservation changed from the DL codeshare to the VS flight but retained the G fare. Since VS doesn't have a G fare I initially received no mileage credit for that flight. Two phone calls were fruitless but an email to Delta finally corrected the situation.

My outbound flight on that trip was on AF, booked as a codeshare in W. I also upgraded that with 20K miles. That changed from the the DL codeshare to the AF flight booked in O. I had no problems with earning the appropriate miles with that flight.

Wow, how much was the G fare to begin with? 20k SkyMiles one way sounds like a really cheap upgrade to business class on the routes VS flies...

IIRC on DL TATL flights, only 30,000 DL RDMs are required to upgrade from the more expensive coach fares to D1. It's not a bad deal if you must take one of those fares anyway.

I paid $1198.16 to fly MSP-CDG-MAN-BOS-MSP; all were initially DL codeshares. The outbound booked into W (but the CDG-MAN portion was really C+) and the return into G, including an F seat in BOS-MSP. I think it was quite a good deal. I don't know whether MAN was less expensive than LHR; MAN worked better for my travel plans. Also, I am a leisure flyer so I have some flexibility to plan my trips around the best fares rather than the other way around.

I don't know why the mileage upgrades from PE to B are less than the Delta upgrades, but it's a good deal as long as it lasts.

Wow so it appears that "G" is upgradeable on partners when booked as PremEcon. This is exactly the information I was searching for. Thanks a million, CarmenOM.

Glad to help. Here's a little further info:

I was able to get the AF upgrade by calling the AF number in US, which I think is actually Delta. The agent knew exactly what to do. When I hung up and checked my Delta account the upgrade showed on my itinerary. A few minutes later I received an email with the new itinerary and another email about the miles deducted from my account.

VS does not handle these upgrades, or at least it didn't six weeks ago; you have to do it through Delta. When I called Delta the first agent told me that only some VS flights were designated for such upgrades and mine was not; I think she just didn't know and didn't want to find out. A week or so later I called again and got an agent who knew what to do, but it was more complicated. The DL agent had to put me on hold for quite awhile to arrange it with the VS agent.
