JFK-ATH suspended

It looks like DL has suspended the service from JFK-ATH. Got a phone call today from Delta for an itinerary I have in April for the flight. Only options now are connecting through AMS or CDG.

Not ideal, as it adds an extra amount of time.

Wondering if Emirates' decision to add EWR-ATH added to the struggle for the market.

It's seasonal. Maybe next year it's starting a little later? The two daily JFK-ATH flights are still bookable for next summer.

Bummer, I'd say this increases the odds that the other summer seasonals JFK-ARN and PHL-CDG (that I posted about yesterday) were also axed. I have a JFK-ARN trip booked but haven't received a call yet.

EK has been offering extremely low fares on that route for a while. Can't be helping DL's yields, especially for a leisure-heavy route like that.

Delta's JFK-ATH is still in the schedule from 4/22/18, and daily from 4/25/18.

Where are you seeing that. Everything I see for next summer is EK is 2x the cost of UA or DL. What dates are you looking at?

They've recently had some fare sales.

Lovin' it. Most likely a prelude to the next round of pathetic anti-Gulf screeching. accusing EK of predatory pricing to drive a competitor out of the market. I'm sure that "pure as the wind driven snow" DL would never do anything like that in any market.

Ah, sale only valid when booking for 2-people at a time. Valid for some, not relevant for a lot. Try looking at prices for 1 person and they're twice as expensive in J as UA or DL, both of which don't have 3 seat across in J. EK in J on the 77W is one of the worst J products out there.

EK has the advantage of doing this as a stop on a broader route and also offering F, while the top-of-the-line for DL is J. Those F fares really do pull the PRASM up on a route.

Actually the flight restarts Apr 16 2018, about 3 weeks later than originally planned (end of March 2018).

Nope, even though they are introducing an improved J seat on the 777, it will still be 2-3-2:
