Maybe scolding a KM DYKWIA for cause would be a gutsy move I could applaud.
Flying the plane should never be gutsy. It should be cowardly.
EDIT: I agree that it was good work getting it turned and back out. I would have no issue with giving it a "well done". But "gutsy" implies they took a risk.

Delta has capped fares at $399 for flights to and from southern Florida through Sept. 13. Delta carefully examined fares from Florida as Irma's path became apparent and demand to fly out of the area surged.

Flying ATL-PBI tomorrow night. Wonder how crowded my flight will be.
Live in Fort Pierce on the beach and and have a room in MCO area just in case SAT-TUE.

Just to be clear, the phrase you quoted for my post was written by the TPG blogger.

I'm ticketed to SXM next month, which based on the devastation is clearly not happening. Ideally I'd like to use the ticket value (plus fare difference) to travel elsewhere on the same dates, and to finalize the new plan ASAP.
Historically when destructive storms affect such a wide area, how long does it take DL to update the waiver based on local outcomes?

Not to take anything away from DL's accomplishment here at all, but there were many special circumstances. This was the only plane moving at the airport, so it never had to wait in line. The inbound was virtually empty, so they didn't really have to unload. I'm certain there were no boarding zones; as soon as the plane was empty the announcement was likely "Everybody on, now!" And the passengers were no doubt highly motivated to make it a fast boarding.

If the forecast holds, with it moving from the GA coast up to northwestern SC, there will certainly be storms in Atlanta which may slow things down.
