Even for those that travel with someone else, I would think they may have limited interest in climbing over their companion. I mean, I doubt anyone pushes their bed against the wall so they have to climb over their partner to get out of bed at home.
No one here is talking about anything in a 2-2-2 configuration.

Umm... The person I responded to was talking about 2-2-2 seating.

Already answered by others here,

Why not simply select an aisle seat in the middle of the 2-2-2 section? Or one where the window seat is empty if you want to go on the side section? In over a 100 flights, just once have I had someone had to climb over me (was on BA 747 upstairs that is 2-2 forward/back, and the "direct aisle access" from the window isn't really direct when the aisle seat is put down in the sleeping position).

That is simply solved by selecting a preferred seat timely. Even on last minute - as in only some 24 hours before flight - bookings, I haven't had a problem of doing so.

This thread is beginning to look like a tennis match, with long volleys.

I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.

As many have said, it all comes down to what people are willing to pay, and $1000 more RT wasn't it...

Wow
Must have gotten some backlash from high value customers
Also wonder if it adversely affected bookings

Always glad to see airlines reverse asinine things like a $1,000 surge charge

Because who in the world would pay $1k extra to fly that over another D1 product?

Its still a $500 surcharge for Z or I... isn't what I'd call cheap, although the odds of finding Z fares are pretty slim.

How about the ones who paid? Will they get refunded?

This is yet another example of the power of FlyerTalk, Rene's Points, View from the Wing, One Mile at a Time, and the other blogs. To my knowledge, no mainstream news outlet picked up on this.

But, there is still a surcharge.

Corporate travel departments that likely hope for Z/I class will still be dismayed.

Just because something is applied to published fares does not mean that it's applied to corporate fares. My guess is that DL would be very eager to waive a surcharge to get the corporate travelers in the new seats (and out of the comparable UA seats).

I'd be happy to pay a $250 dollar surcharge for the A350 but looking at flights departing SDF in late October, returning about a week later, all the A350 flights through NRT to DTW are $2000-$4000 more expensive than the more convenient HND-MSP-SDF. I really wanted to try out the suites but for that price difference I'll pass.
