I'd assume b/c a GoogleFlights (or other outlet) comparison search would allow them to market a flight at the same rate as another airline's, or even cheaper. Then they can tack on the surchage when booking. It's deceptive marketing/pricing, that many non-FT/frequent travelers may not pick up on.

Correct. Surcharges must be shown in the fare on the OTA. See https://www.transportation.gov/polic...ne-rules-fares
Not sure why DL chose to break it out this way. Maybe it makes sense to the bean counters on Virginia Ave, but it definitely was not going to go over well with anyone who bothers to read a fare breakdown.

In any case, if they put it in the fare, they'll price themself out of competition .... and then complain that it's because of the ME3 and not their fault...

I mistakenly wrote about other booking sites/airlines while my mind was thinking about comparing award bookings (i.e., comparable cost in miles, but a 'hidden fee' when trying to book). What I get for browsing FT at work on a Friday...

Look, you provided the unintentional comedy. Heck, all the information to save you the embarrassment was already covered in this very thread. Yet you still wanted to rail against "deceptive marketing/pricing" and pat yourself on the back for being so much smarter than all the infrequent flyers.

Don't get indignant because I laughed at something that is, objectively, super funny.

At no point did I 'pat myself on the back,' I simply stated that infrequent flyers are probably not as aware of the hidden intricacies of airlines.
Sure, of course it's funny. I also corrected myself, and you are the one who showed your true colors as a human with the unnecessary snark. Heaven forbid anyone ever make a mistake on this forum.

From a technical standpoint, I know the surcharge can be added if travel includes certain aircraft types, but I don't know if fare rules are capable of limiting their application based on aircraft type.

What happens if an equipment swap happens? You paid $500 extra for the A350 but now say you get swapped to a 747. Do you get $350 back (since the 747 carries at $150 surcharge), as well as compensation?
My initial assumption is DL would not give you the $350 automatically since it's built into the fare.

Making mountains of molehills. Many carriers do this, including Air Canada and Aeromexico, when they fly premium-configured widebodies on routes in conjunction to narrowbodies.

A lock that, if it happens, will have been caused by folks who come to FT only to deride others.
What is it folks? Is this the only way you have of bucking up your self-esteem?

I'd be fine with a surcharge if the seat was like Qatar's new business class, but it's not. I don't care what the DL apologists here have to say. DL's product is a slightly wider 767 seat with a Tupperware "door" bolted to it. Period.

The appointments and color palate of the QR design also make the whole cabin seem warmer and more inviting, compared with the clinical/plasticy look of the DL seat.
With that said, if you roll to 1:28 in the first video of the QR post, the gentlemen seated in the wall-side seats still appear to be very close to the walls. At the end of the day, unless I were traveling with a group of four, and the center quad would make sense, I personally would continue to stick with the reverse herringbone seats for my J travel.
