Is Delta still running shuttles at LAX?
I'm flying with Virgin Australia this weekend, but purchased through Delta. I'm still trying to figure out which counter will be best to check in as Delta PM. but since I'm checking in at T2 anyways, I was hoping I get to use the TSA precheck lines and go through security in T2, then take the shuttle over to TBIT.
this is an economy ticket purchased through Delta with the Delta Amex card. is it safe to assume I will be able to access the Delta Lounge. will I be able to use any lounge in TBIT. |
If VA is operating the flight, you check in with them. You can use the priority check-in. My experience with VA check-in is pretty good (definitely faster than the typical DL Sky Priority at LAX).
You will technically have SkyClub access. I am not sure if there is a T2 shuttle at this point or not. Unfortunately there is no TBIT lounge for Delta FF on VA. VA use EK and EY lounges, but not for DL elites flying Y. Unless you have access to a TBIT lounge through your CC or PriorityPass, etc. On return you will run into the same problem. You can access VA lounges throughout Australia, but there are none in international terminals. So you don't have any lounge on departure back to LAX either, at least not after passport control. The good news is you are going to Australia and VA is quite a nice airline. |
Yes, definitely still running the bus. I have flown through LAX several times since the move and every time is something little different and not in a good way.
Today, I had to go to TB (Tom Bradley) for outbound Tokyo flight on DL, so it was not contained in T2 and T3. The signage said Terminal B, which was confusing, I thought they added another satellite for Delta, but it was Tom Bradley International. Other parts of the airport uses TB or TBIT as initials so it's clear it's Tom Bradley. T2 Sky Club looks better now and there is one in each T2 and T3. They said I can use the Korean Air lounge at TB for my DL flight leaving out of TB but the Korean lounge people refused and tell me to go to DL Sky Club. I didn't have enough time, so I stayed in TB and played gate lice. They only load/unload one bus at a time, even though the tarmac has enough space to do multiple buses, so we were on the bus on the tarmac waiting for the buses in front of us to unload/reload and leave. The process is definitely not seamless or smooth. Nothing like smelling jet fume to take a way every last bit of normalcy of flying. |
There is still a Airside bus to TBIT from T2/T3 and there will be until whenever DL builds a walkway which will probably be a few years from now. In T2, you can catch the bus at Gate 22A which is hidden in the back of the Gate lounge for Gate 22. In T3 you can catch the bus next to Gate 35 where there is a hallway that leads to a escalator which takes you down to the bus. As for lounge access you will have access to the SC in T2 and T3 but that's about it as VA is not apart of ST and you can't use the Korean Club in TBIT as a STE+ since VA is not ST. I don't know why VS or VA won't join ST but hopefully they will soon.

I should add that TBIT T2 and T3 are all adjacent to each other. But, to go from one to another using the airside bus, it takes about 20 upto 30 min. T3 didn't have many people wanting to go to TBIT but T2 did have a lot of people, I had to wait for 2 buses.
I cannot wait until Delta fix this. It's messy and loses my lounge time that can be use to do work before take off. By the way, T2 SC staff told me I can use KR lounge in TBIT. I asked 3 times, they said yes I can use it but when I showed up, they turned me away. I remember one time to went to the KR lounge in NRT instead of SC, and they let me in so I think there is no clear policy or the policy is not well known. |
Very strange that Korean is turning DL flyers away. Of course, flying VA metal you have no chance, but I would think Skyteam would work.

DL 69, direct w/ 1 stop in PDX. I remember in the old days, 69 was from somewhere else (SLC I think) to PDX, then PDX to NRT, and NRT to TPE were all under DL 69. DL 7 to HND is scheduled for 11:30am DL 69 to NRT is scheduled for 9:30am if my memory is right. |

Checkin for international is at T2. Thus the flight shows T2, even though departing from gate 133.

Sorry to disagree with you about DL69 with a stop at PDX. It's a B717 change planes to a B763. That's 2 different flights, in my opinion. It might as well be any old flight from LAX to PDX connecting to NRT. They still won't hold the int'l leg if the domestic leg is late.
You don't have to convince me, but DL started to selling DL69 as LAX-NRT. The TV monitors are displaying LAX-NRT, instead of LAX-PDX. At the time, I thought it was a non-stop so I aske the SC agent if they brought the fight back. She looked at the computer and said "yup", even shared it work her coworkers. I called my admin to see if she can get me NRT to LAX back on DL68, because I gonna go around Asia and back to Tokyo @ NRT but currently ticketed out of HND on DL 6. I didn't want to go from NRT to HND. I was told it is indeed sellable now, as NRT-LAX as "direct 1 stop in PDX" Called Diamond desk and they said they will protect given its the same flight number. |

Does Delta even have a check in counter at TBIT? I was assuming that is why you have to check in at T2...
