On 26SEPT17 Delta changed the MQD AMEX exempt requirements. $25,000 only exempts you to Platinum or lower. $250,000 spend needed across ALL the DL AMEX cards you hold (personal and business in your name) for Diamond exemption for 2019 elite year.

If all you are interested in is the discussion starting when the announcement occurred on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, start here.

The Delta announcement is here https://www.delta.com/content/www/en...d-updates.html

There are many data points that Delta will allow a one time exception under the 2017 qualification rules if you request this for the 2019 Medallion year.

I have hit it, as shown in the pic.

It's not so tough when you store up insurance, health care, tax payments, tuition payments, etc. for January when you need to start all over again on your Delta MQMs.

The bar is showing I only met the $25K spend. I only have 115K MQMs though so maybe it will show a progress bar once I reach 125K mqms

I don’t think so. I rolled over more than 125k.

Hi everyone – beginning on February 1, the Card Spend bar for Diamond and Platinum Medallion Members will show progress towards reaching $250,000 in spend. The Card Spend bar for Gold and Silver Medallion Members, and General Members, will continue to show progress towards reaching $25,000 in spend. We apologize for any confusion this might currently be causing.

Wow. Thanks. Didn't even know Delta had a rep on FT.

Right, so you're good to go. No problem for you.

Confirmed. I've got a new bar now, with a lot of empty space.

When you pass the $25K for PM, and they start showing progress towards $250K, they need to shift to a logarithmic scale for the progress bar.

I'll be going for the $250k too, but I think it will be a close call. What governs the charges that count? Statement date within 2018? Or the actual date individual charges were made <posted>?

That’s interesting. I guess you wouldn’t want the less frequent flyers to see how unreachable Diamond status is now.

Personally, I would prefer getting rid of MQMs completely and upping the spending to a minimum of $500,000 even for Silver (although not for foreign residents). Of course, there should be no change in the MQD waiver for those who do not live in the US and while MQMs would be gone, segments should become more valuable.

I suggest that each segment be worth one step up in status. Hence, if I fly TLV-FCO on Alitalia I would become Silver for my outbound flight and Gold for the return trip. If I throw in another trip TLV-CDG on Air France, I would be raised first to Platinum and then to Diamond.

(Diamonds, of course, should be entitled to automatic free upgrades on all flights, foreign and domestic, which would be available at time of booking.)

Not a bad idea when DL becomes a financial company.
