Richard Anderson is new CEO of....Amtrak

WASHINGTON—Amtrak named former Delta Air Lines Inc. chief executive Richard Anderson as the new president and CEO of the national passenger railroad, which is grappling with a backlog of repairs even as ridership continues to grow.

Awesome! Amtrak really needs help but I think is both a much needed service and clearly needs lots of help

Pretty shocked by this as well. Sure seemed like he was moving into actual retirement.

He must've traded his plane tickets for train tickets.

Amtrak sued Union Station, it just so hapend to be over DL ads....could have just as easily been AA/B6 et al.

Could be interesting given Amtrak's relationship with UA. But RA's never been one to shy away from picking a fight with a former friend.

Amtrak will be cancelling its next generation Acela order and returning the Metroliners to service. The Metroliners are promised to have new interiors with in-seat entertainment (featuring satellite TV & AVOD) but Amtrak will go back-and-forth over the next 5 years whether or not to implement this.

Anderson's dad worked for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad.

His uncle was General Passenger Traffic Manager.

It was union station they sued not Delta. Their lease prohibited advertising from Amtrak competitors.

Airline CEOs go to railroads, railroad C-suiters go to airlines (Oscar Munoz from CSX to UA). Not sure how much better Anderson can do than Wick Moorman though, Moorman is one of the better railroad CEOs of the past quarter-century from his time with Norfolk Southern, and Amtrak gets limited by how much the Feds want to bother with it annually.

Oh well, we can say goodbye to Amtrak as the good alternative to flying for east coast travel.

How many more seats can we squeeze into a coach car?

How long before the carry-on allowance is trimmed and checked baggage fees are increased?

No fees for cancelling/changing tickets... that'll be history.

Free wifi? Here comes GoGo.

sigh...
