After a schedule change, I am now scheduled to fly D1 ATL-CDG in early Sept. When I check the seat map, to my great disappointment, it appears to be one of those Ex-LATAM configured planes. I understand that a retrofit of these aircrafts is underway. Does anyone have any insight as to when Delta hopes to complete this process? I am debating whether to try to push Delta to move me to an updated plane or wait in hopes that a refreshed cabin is introduced on this flight before September. I otherwise like the scheduled departure time so would prefer not having to change. Interesting, when pricing the route for that day, this flight is substantially higher priced than other options. Lucky for me I got a good Z bucket fare, but at full retail I would be really angry if I was expecting D1 suites and was confronted with these LATAM seats.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I find the ex-LATAM A350 to be incredibly more comfortable than the suites. I’m also 6’5” so there’s that…..

I haven't flown the exLATAM A350 but I don't think this is as unpopular as you might assume. I find the suites on both the A350 and A339 neo (and, before its retirement, the new 777 config) to be pretty uncomfortable. I am also 6'5" but it's not just the size, the padding is extremely hard and unpleasant. Reverse herringbone on the A332/3 still is the best for sleeping in the DL fleet IMO.

I don't believe the retrofit has actually started yet.

No, upgrades have not begun as of yet. And, I'm not totally convinced that DL was planing the retrofit. If they were, the updates should have been handled when these ships were at SIN for well over 2 months each (some of them even longer). I guess If the leases are for more than 4 years (long term)...it will happen at some point.

IIRC the retrofits were announced from the beginning, and the reason for not doing them from the start was supply chain issues.

Row 40 blocked

Row looks to be consistently blocked on the the 359, are they only assigned at the gate? Is there a way to get put in those seats ahead of time?

Delta has restarted direct flights to Shanghai effective March 3rd, 2023 (although NOT daily) from both DTW (using the A359..twice weekly) and SEA (using the A339..thrice weekly). This means that the flights that did stop at ICN will no longer exist. Prior to the pandemic, Delta had direct flights also from ATL and LAX to PVG (Shanghai), it has not stated if or when they might be returning. The only other destination in Asia that has not restarted is PKX (well Peking). Prior to the Pandemic, Delta flew into PEK. The (newly opened) international airport at Peking is now PKX. So, when those segments return, Delta will (for the first time) fly into the new international PKX airport.

Just flew this last week HNL-ATL, and while I really dislike the 2-2-2, the ottoman >>>>>>> the footwells, especially for a side sleeper. The seats were very comfortable. My only issue with the plane was the no air vents and air temperature. We woke up pretty hot at one point and found it hard to fall back to sleep.

No air vents is what it is (I agree that it's no good) but the crew sets the temperature.

I digress on the A350

Currently on DL27 to ICN from ATL.
If you search the forums you will see my (relative) disdain for D1 on the A350. In the past, my 6’3” frame found the suites a bit like a coffin: too tight, too low to the ground, a bit narrow.
I must say, however, that after about 4 years of avoiding this product…I’m really enjoying it. While it’s showing it’s age a bit and it’s still a bit tight, I’m enjoying it tremendously. I think it’s, in large part, due to the service on this flight, and the fact that I came into the flight not expecting to enjoy it. Granted, the door is janky (and I don’t get turned on by doors…) and I don’t need a cheeseburger 6 hours in, but the crew has been terrific - attentive but not intrusive, genuine, not saccharine - and it’s set me so at ease that I am truly enjoying the experience. Kudos to Delta and this crew!

Tall people tend to be more successful. I believe this is because of the motivation provided by the pain of coach seats.
