Almost certainly not, unless you really want to check out a new plane. But the reviews here of the J seat don't make it sound like it's worth going 8 hours out of your way to get on.

I was on the flight that got subbed back to the 744, overheard the agent while checking in, offering to a passenger who purchased PS $500 voucher and blocking whole row of seats or blocking middle seat. Was bittersweet for me, as I wanted to try the A350 business seats, but in the end got to sit on the upperdeck of the 747.

I'd take a whole row of seats in a heartbeat.

I'm scheduled to fly to ICN on the A350 in late Dec. Hopefully they'll have sorted out whatever the problem is by then but I'll admit that I won't be too disappointed if I end up in D1 on a 744 instead especially if I get an upper deck seat.

Well you won't have to worry about that, as the last revenue flight for the B744 is from DTW>ICN>DTW on Dec. 15th/17th, assuming that you're flying after then!

The fourth A350, N504DN, has been handed over to DL, and is currently en route from TLS>MSP for induction. This will then allow the DTW>ICN>DTW route to go all A350 starting Dec. 16th, when the B744 operates the final revenue flight on Dec. 15th/17th.

According to the unofficial, but accurate A350 production website, it appears Delta may end up getting all six A350-900s they intended to have delivered this year by Christmas. Due to Airbus's rather slow progression of A350 deliveries, N506DN was thought to be delivered in early January 2018 but it should be taking it first flight later this week in preparation for delivery to MSP on December 23. Let's see if Airbus is able to pull off a small miracle for Christmas and deliver on time relatively speaking.

Valid point. Now I *really* hope they sort out whatever the problem is. I shudder to think what they'll use as a replacement if my A350 can't fly.

Umm, that's the last regularly scheduled revenue flight. A substitution is obviously not a regularly scheduled flight. A 747 substitution revenue flight is most definitely possible after Dec 15.

With four A350s in service by then, that's highly unlikely!

What are you talking about? The A350 regular schedule at that point will require 4 planes. 4 - 4 = 0. There will be no spare A350s available to do a substitution flight.

What am I talking about? All I said was that it would be highly unlikely, NOT "definitely possible', like you said. There will be two more in service by the end of December and I'll bet you that they won't need a substitution, but I doubt that you'd honour the bet anyway, as you're always looking for ways to prove people wrong on this forum.

What was the reason for the swap to the 744? Did they say? I can't find any explanation.

Just came here to post that we saw this flight land a few minutes ago at MSP.

Wonder if/when we will get A350 services from MSP hub.

I asked both the check in and gate agent, and no reason provided, they apologize for the equipment change. Most were contract employee I suspect. I did chat with the Captain once onboard and the reason for change was vaguely answered, it was very last minute and apparently it was not thought out well enough.
Based on the conversation going around on the upperdeck, one of the a350 pilot was actually onboard.
I suspect it was due to crew scheduling and or not having enough a350 trained pilots, but would be curious to see what the actual reason is.
Tomorrow's (November 30th) DL158 is also swapped back to the 747, although in the reservation system it is still showing as a350, but seatmap is 747. Just tried to do a dummy booking for Dec1st and DL158 is not showing up.
