I imagine that's unlikely given that I imagine DL is already planning some fanfare for the Oct 30 inaugural if it will indeed be the inaugural for the A350. I'd be more worried about your 747 being subbed to a 777 than an A350.

I'm sure they are doing testing and certification/training on a flight that long. Good time to really make sure things are working and get some folks familiar with it.

Understood. But we wouldn't mind "getting familiar" with it at the same time! An empty flight would be a great time to explore!

I believe today was the first "test run" for the flight attendants to provide cabin service (only pax were in-flight leaders/pilots/maintenance personnel). They won't even let non-revs on

The European Aviation Safety Agency issued an emergency directive to pilots of the Airbus SE (EADSF) A350-900 long-haul aircraft to upload a software fix to prevent the plane from possibly overheating the hydraulic system and causing an explosion, Reuters reported.
DL isn't listed as one of the carriers in the article, could the software fix have already been done at the factory before delivery?

You don't want to see the terms 'aircraft', 'software fix', and 'explosion' anywhere related even if it is a remote probability.

It's been parked at NRT since Saturday afternoon.

I'm still hoping for some domestic test runs from Atlanta with the opportunity for the public to buy a seat. Would be a great one day turnaround!

Nope. These aircraft are staying around DTW and eventually one DTW-ICN-ATL-ICN-DTW rotation for the immediate future.

I highly doubt the 350 will ever do LAX-SYD. Remember that DL is going to start mods in 2018 on the 777s to include D1 Suites and PS. The 777 seems perfect for LAX-SYD.

How do you figure?

A350 will be 32/48/226 (J/W/Y)
777 will be 28/48/220

So, pretty similar, but the A350 is a bit more premium heavy than the 777. My understanding of LAX-SYD is that it's a premium-heavy route.

Therefore, I'd argue LAX-SYD is perfectly suited to the A350. Not the 777.

The 777-200LR can carry more than the current A350-900 and 777-200ER fleet.

Till DL gets 280t 359s the 77L will continue to do LAX-SYD and ATL-JNB.

FWIW, PVG and HKG probably won't see any 359 flying any time soon either. Both will more than likely stay on the 777 (SEA-HKG is going 777 next year) which, again, will carry more on the respective routes than a current 359 will.

Yeah, I'd figure it was only a matter of time before Delta placed the 777-200ER on SEA-HKG as the A330-200 struggles with the stage length, in particular in the winter. I'd figure Delta was going eventually going to fly the A350-900 on DTW-PVG in order to free up the aircraft frames for ATL-PVG, with the rotation as ATL-PVG-LAX-SYD-LAX-PVG-ATL, along with ATL-NRT-ATL-JNB-ATL. Well, could be a different PVG route you were referring to.

FYI...I saw it parked at DTW on a test flight to somewhere on the 13th. Plane number was 3501

I would not have noticed, but all the Delta types were taking selfies in front of the gate window.
