I don't have any reason to go to Asia this winter. But when the domestic test flights get added to the calendar, I'll go out of my way to fly in a suite.

To put into several year old perspective.
3 and 4 years ago I booked several east coast to Asia flights via CDG on AF in their PE (which was not the post comfortable PE back then). If you could book into A class, you could do east coast US-CDG-Asia-CDG-another European city stopover-CDG-east coast US for $2200 to $2700. I did HKG and CPH, PNH and TXL, and SIN and KBP, and ICN and CDG, as I recall.

Got a very good deal a couple days ago in J out to MNL, and back in Y.

Glad the first flight ended up being the A350.

I've booked DL275 DTW-NRT on Oct 30 in PS and have the same 99k SkyMiles RT charge in PS. We have a connection to AUS in both directions, and the AUS-DTW leg booked in First Class both directions, all R inventory (R/R/R/R).

I'm betting its an error with PS getting FC on domestic legs. Its probably seeing R on the domestic leg and thinking it should book into R since R is PS on the A350.

$2500 and booking into C+? That would be awful.

One reason that I could imagine it not being a mistake is that it could really help them sell more PS. The availability is going to be so limited, and if they can put people in F on connections, it will open up more markets to PS (which is essentially just domestic F on international flights).

If this is indeed not a mistake, I'll be very curious to see what they do with the transcon routes. I'm fairly certain PS won't book into D1 on the transcon, but what about someone who is going JFK-SYD with a connection at LAX. Would they have to do something like JFK-DTW-LAX-SYD in order to be in F & PS the whole way?

Or maybe the long term game is to offer PS on the transcons?

Well, you could just do a booking now involving VA and see what happens. It turns out the three options you get are Y/Y, Y+/W, and J/J. Shorthaul connections (eg: SFO-LAX-SYD) book the same way.

Contrast with (eg) RDU-JFK-LHR which offers Y/Y, F/W, and F/J. LAX-JFK-LHR OTOH offers Y/Y, Y+/W, J/J. So perhaps it's partner and route dependent.

Good call, I just tried SAN-LHR and when you connect to VS in either LAX or in ATL you are booked in to F for the DL domestic flight.

And at least in my search it was MUCH more expensive to fly through ATL in PE than LAX, but the Y and J prices were comparable for both routes.

However, if you fly LAX-JFK-LHR, DL on LAX-JFK and VS on JFK-LHR, you are in C+ for the domestic transcon. SO, if this is not a mistake, the moral of the story is to avoid flying on the transcon routes when connecting to Premium Y on DL or VS. Not on VA.

probably belongs in another thread: While doing this I noticed: I can't see the fare classes anymore when searching, just the cabins. (It says "first class" but not A or F, etc). When you actually select a flight, it shows at the end.

The link to the A350 intro page on delta.com is now live

https://www.delta.com/content/www/en...350-cabin.html

Seat map here:

https://www.delta.com/content/www/en...0.html#seatmap

Of note:

-100v power only in D1 and PE. Just USB in the rest, which seems strange.

-DL lists pitch in Y at 31"-32". Not great, and not clear which seats have 32".

- As we were aware, PE seat width is only .5 inch greater than Y. Again, we knew this, but it's really not great, though I don't think this includes extra armrest space between seats.

Thank you for posting! I'd been checking to see if this was up yet, but you beat me to it

The power is a little strange, although I don't think many people can really use a laptop in Y anyway, and most good laptops have 8+ hour batteries these days anyway.

I would also really like to know which Y seats have 31". Hopefully it is just a few rows in back, 32" is not bad with the cradle seats which I, unlike many here, strongly prefer to the old ones.

I think the PE width benefit really does come in the wide and fully separated armrest that gives you a better degree of separation from your seatmate. As a skinny misanthrope I'd rather this than a wider cushion, but don't really care because I don't value PE for what they're selling it for, I'd rather really enjoy J or pocket the Y savings.

Would be good info for sure. Maybe it is the 'exit rows' and limited recline seats?

No options to purchase up to PE and D1 on any of the flights. Seems really odd.

Power thing seems idiotic for a plane being put on TPAC flights.

Not proud of what I spent but I did book in D1 on the inaugural flight. I tried to book yesterday when I saw it was 160,000 miles [one way] but I was a few miles
short in my account and I was on a plane landing in Atlanta. When I got on the ground it was 240,000 miles.

I finally found a reward flight from Atlanta connecting to Detroit that priced at 200,000 miles. I used cash and points to get it to 185,000 and transferred in some miles form Amex. I paid too much but it should be fun to see the full hard and soft product.
