When you get to the part where you verify your lyft account I got a "we're overloaded with too many requests" message a few times before it finally went through.

I have four airport rides tomorrow :)

I calculated the various rideshare partnership values that may be useful here:

using tpg values to calculate earn rates:
Lyft:
Delta: 1.2% (general ride), 3.6% (airport ride)
Jetblue / Trueblue: $0.36 flat earning per airport ride (so is more valuable than Delta rides until you reach $10 after which Delta is better for this calculation)

Uber:
SPG (requires 1 stay to trigger earnings for year): 1.35% (general ride), 5.4% (rides during SPG stays)

Cool beans.

Just registered ^^

thanks!

manacit May 17, 2017 10:27 am

Cool! Registered - unlike pvn I was able to link my accounts no problem.

If only American Express had partnered with Lyft instead of Uber on their Plat card, I'd be able to move everything over to Lyft..

strickerj May 17, 2017 10:31 am

This strikes me as odd considering AmEx just partnered with Uber.

When I try and link:

The request could not be completed due to a networking failure.

My valuations are a little different - 1.8c per DL mile and 2.5c per SPG point, so I yield 1.8% and 5.4% for DL and 1.25% and 5% for SPG. It's actually easier for me to earn SPG points, so I'll probably start using Lyft more frequently. Hope the airport promo lasts awhile, those are usually my longer trips.

Nice to have options.

My experience with Uber has been better than Lyft. Would have preferred them but will sign up just in case.

First thing I thought of. My personal platinum has Uber credits. Now tempted to use Lyft to/from airport until the 3x goes away.

And I assume that if you have a Skymiles card that's an additional mile per dollar, for a total of 4/$1 on an airport ride

Good Point!

Gonna make sure to use my amex on my lift rides, particularly airport rides

javabytes May 17, 2017 1:14 pm

In addition to the SPG/Uber partnership, don't forget Amex also offers 2x Membership Rewards on Uber rides if you pay with that card, and Chase's definition of travel is pretty broad so CSR earns 3x.

[edit]I apparently can't do math, so forget the examples.[/edit]

I really do wish Uber would just allow in-app tipping already. Despite Uber's company line, the reality is drivers feel tips are not included, and trash the ratings of people that don't tip. If I don't have extra cash in my pocket, I'm forced to Lyft. And carrying cash defeats the point of these services.

Really? I have had the opposite, all of the bad drivers I've ever had have been with uber. Many of my cow-orkers report the same. I've never had a bad ride with lyft.

Where does the Delta mile come from?
