Surprised I Booked a 25k Award

Someone told me DL has great options to DC so I looked at award for my July trip. Booked into DCA and out of BWI for 25k with good connections. Only caveat is MSP connections from BWI were higher points so it's ATL on the trip home. Then I looked at my October trip OMA-LAS and I guess it's too early to find anything decent. Or, is it just that it's Vegas?

DTW-BWI and ATL-BWI are pretty readily available for 6K one-way/12K RT throughout the summer. 25K RT is not much of a deal for domestic coach these days. I suppose it's not bad for a connecting itin, but there's definitely better deals out there.

When I first read through that, I thought you were booking an award flight from BWI to DCA via a connection. Now THAT would have been surprising!

I booked four seats MEM-ATL-MLB (Melborne, FL) for 19k per seat during my kids fall break. I could have gotten MCO with a late arrival for the same, but got better times to MLB. I have a ton of free national days so getting into orlando from MLB isn't a problem.

Delta seems to have great fluctuations in their award flights. Their better deals are when they have award sales.

It is a bit early in the season for mileage running via crazing connections, e.g. DCA ->MSP->BWI. Oh wait, MQDs... never mind
