Delta PVG-LAX evening run input

Okay veterans, I did my first DL PDX-SEA-PVG, PVG-LAX-PDX and it was a friggen disaster. My requirements are Sunday evening Shanghai arrival with one connect and following Friday evening departure with one connect back into Portland.

I generally fly UA either their 8:30pm or 12:30pm out of PVG to LAX/SFO but decided to give DL 7:30PM departure a go.

PVG flight left an hour late, who knows why, they don't tell ya a dang thing. Of course it was this past Friday arrived to LAX and find my 8pm connect to PDX was delayed to 9pm, no big deal. Just chalked it up to Friday busy collateral connect damage. That evening theTerminal was packed and the service line was 50 people deep people already sitting and laying on the floor pretty much seemed like the day before Thanksgiving, little did I know how screwed up DL was still two days of FUBAR.

I got home at 5am after never getting straight answer from anyone but watching my flight gate and push back go from 8 to 9 to 10 to 11 to 12 to 1 and sometime shortly after told they were waiting for that last flight attendant to show up. Lucky they did eventually leave and got home some 36 hours for me. It was funny everyone applauded as that last attendant came running up. The attendants and crew all seemed very sympathetic on disembarkation. I passed out on the plan as you can expect. Did hear that a couple of the attendants were on call and woken up to come to work. Found it odd on reflection they weren't already notified as this was already day two of the FUBAR, but that is what has me worried, does the airline have a clue, or as it appears with UA really no brains where needed?

I now have the choice between DL or UA, what are others feedback, stay with DL or bring my helmet on UA

You hit the double whammy of DL having weather shut down ATL, and cause problems all along the Eastern coast, plus having DL crew scheduling system crash.

I know some will complain (and have every right to), but DL did what they could to get people onwards. They put people up in hotels, fed them, etc. It doesn't help that DL and AA have no agreement to offload passengers to each other. However that has more to do with AA then anything.

UA instead will assault their passengers when they mess up and need crew somewhere and then blame the passenger.

PVG to LAX input!

Chipmaster,

So sorry about your flight, pretty much you flew into one of the worst operational events in Delta history...

the weather event was not really that bad (I'm based in Atlanta) but it morphed into a monster staffing problem when the Crew Scheduling IT just fell apart...

I would definitely complain and ask for compensation, and also hold onto all flight documentation..as while Delta has no obligation to compensate fliers for a weather event, I am pretty sure that a class action suit will be filed showing that in fact it was an operational error that caused all the issues..

Concerning whether to fly Delta or United, I think there is a wealth of information with perhaps broader data points...that might make a more persuasive argument..(or perhaps another airline, ever fly Garuda? they are Skyteam...and the service on Garuda makes Delta feel like Amtrak...)

My Aunt was flying in from Ft Lauderdale on Friday, she received a full refund for her nonrefundable fair, miles thrown into her account, and $100.00 voucher and she has no status...she didn't ask anything either...so worth trying!!

CAVU!!

There's no requirement for compensation either way. Only hotel is required by the CoC. No law in US makes compensation due except in IDB situation.

FWIW DL has another chance to impress me, I fly out again this Saturday for a week to PVG and back thru LA in the evening.

For a while I was on on similar cadence at UA. I got the same crew multiple times and I recognized them, but they being AARP qualified seemed to not recognize me. Wonder if I was paying premium for business it would have been better but being in the cattle car seemed to earn certain service.

Oh to the earlier poster, having flown thru Atlanta before and seen and experienced "the storms" I appreciate why the delays occur. It is even stranger that DL having that as their central hub would't have all these apocalypse type events all planned out, to be in day three and still in total disarray seems someone should be fired in their planning group.

As to UA, everyone from the CEO and in PR / Legal must be tone death and full of arrogance.

Sadly with DL ending its partnership with Alaska unless my DL experience is simply stellar this time I'm leaning to UA as between miles and extra few choices they are ahead even with their bone head CEO. There is a specific agent of UA at SFO that could if I meet again that would swing me back to DL, she was also the model of arrogance...
