EsssexNYC family of four was to travel LGA-ATL-PHX. Ended up flying out three days later (Mon instead of Fri) but direct JFK-PHX. Submitted online forms, and Delta ended up giving us each 20K SkyPesos plus $200 e-credit, plus they sent me a check for $400 for our car service and dinner on Fri. I think a fair resolution from Delta.
Where I really missed out was on our Monday JFK-PHX flight - at the gate, they were offering $1,350 per person for VDB and next-day ticket! I could have pocketed over $5K for one more missed day. If we were going to SYD like a poster above, that would have been one thing, but we were traveling to traveling to my mother-in-law's house for the week! Needless to say, my wife didn't share my view, and we got on the plane....

Heard back a couple of days later; they are reimbursing my UA and Amtrak tickets, about $1400 total.
I think we got a tad short-changed; we had originally purchased an extra seat (3 seats for two) -- but gave the XTRASEAT up (with refund) as soon as our original flight was cancelled. It was much more important just to get to our destination. We only purchased 2 seats on UA. But DL still deducted the original cost of the 3 seats from the reimbursement (as those had been refunded), when I think they should have only deducted the two. But for other reasons I won't go into, I'll just let it go.
