DL Exception fares are different for MQD earn than MQD earn on partner flights. It's always 20% of miles earned (not including status based bonus miles) with only the miles earned varying with fare class (from 50% to 150% of miles flown). There's no variable MQD multiplier. Conceptually it's similar, but the calculations are made a different way. MQD earn on DL Exception fares effectively go from 10% to 30% of miles flown (while on partner fares it can vary from 5% to up to 60% of miles flown).

So you are saying that while the airline ticket would have cost $6000 retail, that's not actually what you paid? I'm not really seeing the basis for a complaint if so. If they were to credit based on fare paid, most would expect that to be on the price actually paid for the fare, not the "retail" price. Note the 20% of miles as MQD is calculated on the mileage earning (not including status bonus) which would be 150% of miles flown on a Z fare.

No one is complaining, but just surprised that my work trip was booked as an exception fare via a cruise line. Most consumers don't know how their tickets are being booked so this exception fare business is a surprise. For most, it works in their favor, but for those on higher fares, it does not usually.

Not a complaint, just commenting and adding information so future visitors to this thread have another data point on how to spot what might be an exception fare. Thanks!
