Involuntary Downgrade / Equipment Change
Route: CDG-ATL
Fare: Comfort+ (skymiles award, 40K one way) What Happened: Five months+ before our flight, I noticed that there had been an equipment change and we now had seat assignments in coach instead of Comfort+ where we previously had seat assignments. Delta had not contacted me about the change. Called Reservations and was informed that Comfort+ was now oversold and was offered to change our flights or receive a Skymiles adjustment and a Voucher. Since neither was acceptable, I didn't even inquire what amounts they were offering. I asked why we were not upgraded to Business which was available for Skymiles redemption at a pretty high price. Was told that they did not do that. Call was escalated and I mentioned that I would be willing to pay additional miles to be upgraded to Business based on the lowest business award. The supervisior said that lowest price redemption was 70K(30K more than I had already paid), but there was nothing available in that fare class. She offered to contact another department and I was then offered Business for an additional 14K per person(54,000 total) which I gladly accepted. Connecting flight from ATL-ECP was also upgraded from Comfort+ to First. Compensation: Reduced price Delta One Skymiles redemption. 54K when the lowest possible rate was 70K and the lowest price being offered on our flight was 225K. |

I know this isn't exactly compensation but I wasn't sure where to share this. I was traveling from Shreveport, LA to ATL on the last flight out on a CRJ200. The 3 pm flight was delayed 3.5 hrs. Our flight began to board and they announced they were oversold by 1 seat. They said whoever gave up their seat would be put on the delayed flight which was scheduled to depart 15 minutes after my flight. I ran up to the counter and told them I'd be happy to volunteer. The super nice gate agent gave me $400 (which I chose to get the Amex gift card) and put me in first class on a CRJ900. I only ended up having to wait 20 minutes and arrived in Atlanta probably 30 minutes later than I would have. I know others have said it but Delta handles these oversells very well.

Paid F (A fare) PM status Busted headphone jack on the 738 Personal phone call from customer relations and 10,000 miles I was very pleasantly surprised. Mostly I wanted DL to know that the beat-up 738s (with the window dressing of mood lighting) are getting long in the tooth and not competitive. Besides fare class, I'm sure it helped that I hadn't lodged any complaints since 2016. |

Upgraded F (V Fare) PM status No tray table Personal phone call from customer relations and 4,000 miles I opened my arm rest and found there was no tray table. Thankfully, it was a short flight. Compensation seems fair too. |

Route: SFO-JFK Flight: DL 407 Status: PM What Happened: 763 SFO-JFK had a mechanical issue. The 8:25a departure was pushed back an hour to 9:30, then until Noon while a part was flown in from LAX. Captain assured us we'd go, and after a couple of more rolling delays, we began boarding at 3p. The captain did a great job keeping us apprised, but maintenance was unable to sign off on the repairs, and then the crew timed out. We deplaned around 5p, and the flight was re-scheduled for 10:30p. The other SFO-JFK flights throughout the day had either no confirmed availability and/or were delayed due to flow. I eventually switched to the 9:25p redeye, arriving at JFK at 6a with just enough time to check into my hotel, shower, and go to my meeting. I returned home Tuesday evening as planned. For what it's worth, after 18 posted delays, DL 407 finally departed after 11:50p. Compensation: While on the phone with a Delta agent during the day exploring rebooking options, I was given 20k miles. Customer Relations posted an additional 10k miles overnight. I called Customer Care and asked that they reimburse my one night hotel since I was past the cancellation deadline and I didn't get to sleep there. They sent me a check to reimburse the hotel night in Manhattan. |
Today, in paid F on JFK-ATL for a connecting flight to ICN, I had a seat with broken IFE (bottom half of the screen was basically a bright green rectangle), and I had a window shade that was so jammed that in my attempt to force it closed I sliced my finger open. The wound was bad enough that I almost immediately bled through the bandaid the FA gave me, and over two hours later it is still oozing blood. To my surprise, I was not offered any compensation in flight (I’ve received 10,000 miles for far, far less from FAs in the past). Upon landing, I spoke to a redcoat who immediately gave me a $250 voucher. Somewhat oddly, it doesn’t show up in my wallet online, but I have the paper certificate so I’m sure I’ll be able to apply it to a future flight one way or another. |

Definitely should have filed an incident report for something like that so you had documentation of the actual incident If the Red Coat doesn't attach your SkyMiles number or take some extra steps then it won't show up in your wallet online, unfortunately |
