Quick question on booking for partner flights

I remember a few years back it was better to book with partners and then "Add" your skymiles account to them (Virgin Atlantic and Air France).

Is it still the case that you get more for booking directly with the partners? Or at this point are things so well run that it doesn't matter who you book with?

This is in reference to a Virgin Atlantic flight next year, sorry if this is rehashing a common topic!

P.S. Not booked with miles, paid flight.

It depends on the airline. For some, like KLM and AF, you get full/equivalent credit like buying from DL.

For others, you don't. The list is at: http://www.delta.com/content/www/en_.../airlines.html

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to read...the question relates to this quote from the VS page:

(1) Partner-marketed flights that are not ticketed by Delta will continue to earn miles based on a percentage of distance flown* as determined by the fare class paid. Unless otherwise noted, mileage credit is only applicable to Delta partner flights that are marketed and operated by that partner or Delta.
I'm not sure how to figure out if the "Flown miles" calculation will net me better results than booking via Delta and getting the standard structure. As this is a "Z" class Buis ticket...I seem to recall the delta being quite large between the two methods.

There are people way more versed in this than I am, but here's my quick take on it.

Here's an example based on RDM only for VS:

Roundtrip LAX-LHR, Gold Medallion, Z fare, with MQD=$4,000

VS Purchase: RDM=(100% + Class Bonus% + Medallion Bonus%) * Distance, so in this case (100% + 50% + 60%) * 10,911 = 2.1*10,911 = 22,913

DL Purchase: (Medallion Miles/$)*MQD, so in this case (9)*4,000 = 36,000
