Question about exit row seating
 

Hello,

I am flying MSP-AMS shortly. On my flight there, I am in regular economy, however I was given (and paid $99) for the option to take an exit row seat (I have no medallion status, if it's not obvious!). I've never seen this option before, as it always says they are preferred - are these seats released at a certain time to be bought by anyone on the flight if they are not already taken?

A while back Delta started selling the preferred seats to non-status fliers. They are available 45 days before hand (though with different price points). IIRC they are not released (i.e. free the day of the flight) but the GA will place non-status PAX in them as needed.
