Same Day Change Rules Question
 

Bought a V fare in economy
Subsequently paid additional $ when Delta gave me option to upgrade to Business
Currently ticketed on a Business Z fare

Question is, if I same day change to another flight do i stay in business or am i downgraded to coach based on my initial purchased fare class? Also, do i get a refund for the $ i spent to upgrade on my original flight?

First of all, you say upgraded to "Business Z". Are you flying international?

If you bought the upgrade before check-in, your ticket was reissued in business class. You get full premium cabin benefits, including extra MQMs, and SDC as long as a premium seat is available.

You will not be downgraded if you do a SDC.

Of course, SDC is not available on international flights. I assume you're flying on a transcon or domestic flight coded as business?

this is a JFK to San Diego domestic route. Yes, I purchased the upgrade option prior to check in.

It should. If there's a seat available on both segments, it's your's to grab. If an agent is hesitant, remind them of the rules. If they won't budge, HUCA.

unbelievable. If I didn't have to actually go into work tomorrow and if i wasn't traveling with my wife i would be all over this.

if your wife also has a front cabin ticket she can SDC for $50 if she's FO or non-status (although the issue is more likely the additional time involved with the connection)

Getting onto a D1 transcon is definitely worth $50 IMO.
