Mileage for Economist Subscription?
I used to be able to get this publication with various mileage programs, but can't find any offers currently- has anyone seen one on Skymiles or any US Airline FF site? I don't think I'll ever earn enough Skymiles for an actual Delta ticket and was hoping to do this instead.

Magazines come and go from magsformiles.com. The Economist indeed is no longer there, it seems.
The model appears to be to get new subscribers via magsformiles.com, then take the publication off there, so that instead of renewing (really doing a new subscription) via magsformiles.com, the subscriber actually renews by cash - that is the whole play of this, after all, to get new cash subscribers in the longer term. Then once all the new subscribers who are so inclined are converted to paying customers, the magazine will go back up on magsformiles.com again for a while to get some more new subscribers. Then go off again... Rinse and repeat. The Economist has been on and off there several times, in line with this apparent operating basis. |
I have a current Economist subscription via miles and received a letter from the Economist a couple weeks ago advising that they were terminating their relationship with Magazines for Miles.

with all due apologies, there's often more than enough commentary from one particular economist here on the DL FT board to avoid using any SkyMiles for a subscription

But that commentary is usually quite different from the commentary in The Economist. I, for one, don't mind to read both. :) |
