Yes, oversized fees DO apply even to you, Mr. DYKWIA.
No, you can't have a preferred seat because you booked Basic Economy.
Yes, I'm going to charge you for a 53 lb. bag to AMS.

Of course, I could lie and waive all that ..... But I don't want to anger the medallions who hate lying agents. ;)

I love you more and more each day.

Surprised op didn't have a printout of rules and priorities to REALLY piss off the GA

If that's true, you should have the option of rebooking right from the delta website or app.

Calling also works. Yes, the GA should have helped you, but sounds like she was trying to get you to go away so she could get the flight out ASAP.

How tight is your connection? 30mins is, I believe, the tightest allowed.

This is one thing I hate the most. My response to customers trying to bother me when I'm trying to turn a delayed flight around.

"When is the flight going to depart?"

"As soon as you walk away so I can do my job."

Did you push back from the gate on time or not? Taxi time is included in deltas scheduling; DL builds a lot of buffer in. There is still a good chance you land on time.

[edit] Just read that you were delayed ~20mins. Still a decent chance of arriving pretty close to on time. How tight is your connection?[/edit]

I only have a 50 minute connection. That only gave me ten minutes to get to my connecting gate before boarding began of everything was on time. I'll be lucky if I make it.

Of course :P

I am always thankful when an agent goes above and beyond to let a bag thats 1-2lbs over slip through or lets me through with one more piece than I should have gratis, etc... These things do not go un-noticed (at least by me).

For better or for worse, at this point I pretty much know most of the rules cold. So when an exception is made for me (for whatever reason), I do absolutely appreciate it. And I do NOT expect DL to break the rules for me.

You'll almost certainly be fine. You just need to make it to the gate 15mins prior to departure.

I always love when I have to run through the airport to make a tight connection too; nothing like a bit of good exercise before I have to sit for hours. Always appreciate when the FA hands me a bottle of water after my run through the airport too ;)

I've had GAs lie to my face too. It hurts even more because I have the same inside information they have, and they sometimes don't know that. However, I just take their name and employee number, submit a survey complaint, and move on. I used to get hung up on bad employees, but I wasn't having much fun.

50 minutes with the delay included? ...

My shortest ATL connection so far has been 14 minutes from parked at the gate to arriving at my new gate. It was three concourses apart.

Also, check your arrival and departure gates at your connecting airport.

One thing I've noticed over the years is that DL OPs does a surprisingly good job of assigning gates such that late incoming flights park very near tight connection outbound flights.

I have had <30 minutes twice in the last 2 months to get from C to G at MSP, and a half a dozen times at ATL where I had about the same amount of time to get between A/D or B/D.

Last Friday it was DTW - B4 to A56....

Luckily, I am in pretty good shape for an old chubby guy, so I have made it without dying so far.

May I add a couple?
1) Yes...Mr. Medallion...I won't waive the fee...you will be charged for a bike and
2) No Mr. Medallion..I won't waive the bag fees for 4 bags...you're going to ORD...and the family is going to SLC....no, it doesn't matter that you paid for the tickets.

There's a belief that airport agents have more flexibility than even elite line phone for rebookings in IROPs. For this reason, many people will try to get an airport agent to protect/rebook them.

readywhenyouare May 8, 2016 7:56 pm

I made my flight, barely. I had a good gate agent for this flight. The 757 changed to a different configuration and messed the seats up. The gate agent made sure I got a good seat.

I always have the policies with me but they wouldn't have done much to help with a delayed flight. I'm surprised you don't think employees should be honest. When delta.com and flightaware both show the flight is delayed then they should drop the act. I'd rather be told "I don't care, F off", than be lied to.
