Delta Baggage Question - Checking television

Gang,

Asking here as I rarely fly Delta.

My hubby's family is visiting from Colombia in June.

Mauricio would like to surprise his brother with a 42" television for his birthday to take back to Bogota... he is an aspiring film student... and this would be very helpful for him... and they are expensive in Colombia.

Question.... would he be able to take it back as checked luggage? What would the cost be as he will be above his two free checked bags ATL - BOG?

Any advice appreciated.

He needs to take some measurements of the box and then check the baggage page, paying attention for fees for extra baggage and (likely) oversized baggage. Those fees are additive.

I did it once with no issues. The biggest issue is that a 42" TV in its original packing is larger than the allowed size, so as 3Cforme mentioned, the oversized baggage fee is a must. Also, make sure you check DL's embargo dates, where no boxes or oversized luggage is allowed.
It will cost $200 for the extra bag and $300 for the oversize.
