Pre-ordering Meals on Delta, the Definitive Thread

The following website seems to allow you to preview the menu options ahead of time: http://cloud.o.delta.com/fltInfo

The Delta App lets you pre-select meals 7 days prior to departure. You may or may not receive an email around the same time (it's inconsistent whether you even receive an email). On the "MY TRIPS" tab, any eligible trip in the list will have a SELECT YOUR ENTREE button; this also appears if you tap on a trip and are viewing the individual trip details. The app is able to handle selections for multiple passengers traveling on the same record (i.e. you will be able to make selections on behalf of traveling companions)

Sample screenshot:

PRE-COVID: If you don't get the email, or only one of multiple passengers receives the email*, you can ask a phone or Twitter/FB agent for the choices, and they can make your selection up until T-24h (not all agents are sharp about this, so you may need to explain that you want to pre-order a regular meal, *not* one of the special vegetarian/Kosher meals etc. HUCA as needed) Nowadays it is unclear if agents can even still do this (or if just the average phone/chat agent does not know how to do so anymore)

*If this happens, double check that you have an email address (for each passenger) in the reservation. (But this can happen at random anyway even if you do have an email address listed.)

I don’t think they offer it from international outstations, do they? I didn’t get one ex-FRA, and I didn’t hear that anyone in my vicinity on board did either.

You’re correct. D1 Pre-order is currently only available for flights originating from the US.

As I posted upthread, I did a preorder that stuck a few days ago on the 359 ICN-ATL.

Good news if you are AMS based
Looks like Delta is expanding the pre-select meals offer from/to more destinations again:

Delta One customers can now enjoy pre-select on the following routes:
  • All outbound routes from the U.S. to Europe
  • Flights departing from AMS, CDG and LHR inbound to the U.S (beginning Sept. 26)
  • Select routes between the U.S. and Asia/Australia*
  • Long-haul domestic routes where Delta One is offered**
Additionally, Delta One customers flying these routes who aren't enrolled in SkyMiles are now eligible to participate in the program — all that's needed is a valid email address listed in their flight booking.

Odd. Wasn't given an option for ICN-SEA.

So our pre-select meal option worked great. The purser confirmed our order for the LAX-AMS flight and the only problem was that I wanted to have like a dozen more meatballs!! They were so so very good. Good thing I don't live far from Jon & Vinny's! (Still haven't gotten in, the last time the table went to Michael J Fox and his family, the nerve!). The guy sitting behind when he was ordering with the purser was like, "well it's airplane food, so how good could it be?" I asked him later what he thought and he said they were pretty tasty and he was going to look up the restaurants.

I saw a DL list that included ICN-ATL but no other destination from ICN.

There are still many destinations ex-ATL with no pre-select like my flight next to GIG.

It seems like the D1 flights are getting better about pre-select. For me I am still interested in pre-select for domestic F as that is the majority of my travel. Hope they didn't decide to scrap the plan.

Work both ways... to/from AMS. Same offerings both ways.

And... a decent single malt for a change: Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask ^
