what is Delta's shortest flight right now?

what is Delta's shortest flight right now?

the last Delta flight that I was on lasted only 19 and half minutes.
(Detroit to Cleveland on a CRJ, from nose up to touch down, based
on my stopwatch) Pretty short, but I think there must be other
flights that are even shorter, right?

Both DTW-LAN and MSP-RST are shorter.

DTW-LAN = 74 miles
MSP-RST = 76 miles
DTW-CLE = 95 miles

DTW-TOL and DTW-FNT used to be the shortest until they were dropped.

If you are counting tag flights, I believe RHI-IMT is currently the shortest at 67 miles.

Shortest ever was CVG-DAY, 64 miles. Did that several times before we discovered the magic of hidden city ticketing.

Sorry, but CVG-DAY was not the shortest.

DTW-TOL was 49 miles and DTW-FNT was 56 miles. I suppose you could discount these as NW holdovers, but DL did fly them for awhile after the merger. DTW-FNT was flown until Jan 1, 2014.

At 108 miles, I think ATL-CHA/CHA-ATL is the shortest route currently with mainline service.

I fly DTW-LAN frequently- it's very quick, no nonsense, no F, stay in your seats, I don't think we go above 20,000 feet CRJ-200 flight attendant doesn't get up

Does anyone have a clue as to why that flight exists?

I have no idea, even after reading this old thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delta...t-rhi-imt.html

Well if we want to talk about the shortest Delta route ever that would have probably have been TSS to EWR. It was 10.8 miles and Delta connection US Helicopter flew it back in 2009 or 10. It got Delta segment and mileage credit including the 500 mile minimum. I flew that several times. Also the TSS to JFK route - but that route was nearly 13 miles - and took nearly 6 minutes.

Both airports are part of the Essential Air Service program. My guess is that given that fact and the amount of total passengers on the route, it saves money rather than operating MSP-INT and MSP-RHI separately, which would mean nearly double the cost to serve the routes.

Delta shows one-way fare of $102 for RHI-IMT
$102 to fly 67 miles is probably cheaper than taking a taxi/uber

I should have clarified but I meant it probably saves money for the EAS program and is part of the deal for getting the EAS contract for IMT/RHI rather than awarding independent/separate contracts to RHI and IMT.

ATL-HSV is not much better than ATL-CHA spent more time taxing ATL then the actual flight time.

This is of course referencing a DL mainline flight as DL splits it between regional partners and mainline flights.

If we include NW holdovers then SNA-ONT at 30 miles? In the early 1990s I recall that NW had only 2 flights a day to ONT from MSP, but 3 returning. One of the morning flights started out at SNA and stopped at ONT on the way to MSP. Not sure if you could buy a ticket for that flight though.

No, shortest ever was MIA - FLL - 15 miles. It was the last flight of the day from ATL to FLL with a stop at MIA.
