Delta's Operational move from T5 to T2/3 at LAX:

Delta has moved to: T2 and T3 with eventual connector to TBIT (note: there is currently only airside bus service to stay securely between T2 & T3, the walking connector has not been built yet.)

Where to check bags: As of January 13, 2020, non-Sky Priority customers must check their bag(s) at the terminal their flight departs from, unless their flight departs from TBIT, in which case, they must check their bag at Terminal 2. Sky priority customers can check their bag at either terminal. See this link for more information.

Date(s) of move: May 12, 2017 - May 17, 2017

Here is a helpful chart from Delta which covers all Domestic / Int'l. transfer combos (AND TOTAL TRANSFER TIMES) between T2, T3 & TBIT.

New Bus Routes will help with connections:
- Circular Airfield Bus between TBIT, T2 and T3
- Airfield Bus between T2 and T3

Bus Map

Will there be a SkyClub: Yes, there is one in each terminal. Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse will remain.
- The SkyClub in T2 opened on May 20th (Former AC Maple Leaf Lounge)
pix in post 1058
- The SkyClub in T3 opened on May 24th (Former VX Loft)

https://www.delta.com/content/www/en...d-updates.html

Where Will The Delta One Check In Lounge Be Located:

Delta will temporarily offer dedicated check-in space in Terminal 2 (first door closest to T1) while a long-term Delta One experience is finalized.
In T2, there is a small Delta One seating area with refreshments. An agent will escort you from the check in/lounge area through a back pathway up stairs to TSA precheck. Its a shorter walk to check-in at SkyPriority and easier if you have a carry on and don't want to drag it up a flight of stairs. 11/3/17)

Airlines joining DL in T2/3 for landside and departures:
- AeroMexico (T2)
- Virgin Atlantic (T2)
- WestJet (T3)

Landside T2 only, departures from TBIT:
- Virgin Australia
- Volaris

Landside T3 only, departures from TBIT:
- Avianca/Taca
- Copa (effective April 7)
- InterJet

Will there be secure links between T2-T3 and TBIT: Yes, the final plan is to let pax walk between all airside.

I know 39 used to have a jetway, but it was removed years ago. Probably for this exact reason. These days 39 is mostly used as a bus stop, they would only use it for boarding in extreme situations.

Numerous gates in T3 can handle wide bodied aircraft. TWA regularly operated 747, L1011 and 767 equipment in T3. Virgin Australia used T3 for departures of its 777-300ER.

should have said T3, with its current 13 gate configuration, appears to not be able to handle a widebody jet while preserving concurrent use of all gates.

Gate 38B can handle one, at the expense of gate 39.

I disagree, at least gates 33A, 33B, 34, 35 and 36 are capable of accommodating wide bodied aircraft. The configuration of those gates has not changed since TWA operated out of that terminal.

As bad as JFK T4 walks can be, I don't miss the JFK pigeons.

Sure doesn't like any T3 gate could handle a 767, 777, or 330. The smart money is on regional jets plus 717s all in T3.
I believe Gate 39 is the bus gate.

That's what it's mainly used as these days, but it has an aircraft parking position so can be used for boarding if T3 is squeezed.

DL will be starting an inter-terminal bus in a couple of weeks. I'm pretty sure he's saying that they plan to use this gate for that purpose. The bus will run every few minutes so I really doubt they'd go and put an aircraft there

Will probably just be an "exclusive door" for the next 18-24 months. Think black carpet from curb to door; someone at the door with nothing else to offer than "hello" and a smile; door opens into main departure hall/head house right in front of D1 check-in counter; while a dedicated check-in counter with fresh flowers, D1 passengers will be in full sight of the unwashed masses.

To really step up its game, Delta will have to build a private D1 entrance, private check-in facility, private security screening area and private D1 and partner J/F passenger lounge (think UA Polaris), preferably with a rooftop D1 Sky Terrace.

The private screening area is out of play in the US. TSA refuses to allow dedicated lanes. As for private D1 lounge, I'm not sure there'd be a great ROI compared to just having an upgraded SC like currently.

Well if they don't there will be some infighting on which office gets the desk

Not that I would have access all that often, it would help if it was better located than the current one, which has you do more walking than the Sky Priority check in.

I am really more interested in when/where/if Clear comes to the new terminals.

I'm doomed. I'm flying into LAX Thursday 5/18 with Delta.

Maybe we will park at a T6 gate, then we will get towed to T3 as part of the relocation.

Based on the move plan, 5/18 is supposed to be the first day that DL is fully in T2/T3. Emphasis on plan.

Well, what could possibly go wrong?

I would say it's fairly certain that the move will happen on the scheduled day. To postpone would mean telling a dozen other airlines to also postpone.

Whether the process will be smooth or chaotic is anyone's guess. But it will happen.
