Delta's Operational move from T5 to T2/3 at LAX:
Delta has moved to: T2 and T3 with eventual connector to TBIT (note: there is currently only airside bus service to stay securely between T2 & T3, the walking connector has not been built yet.)
Where to check bags: As of January 13, 2020, non-Sky Priority customers must check their bag(s) at the terminal their flight departs from, unless their flight departs from TBIT, in which case, they must check their bag at Terminal 2. Sky priority customers can check their bag at either terminal. See this link for more information.
Date(s) of move: May 12, 2017 - May 17, 2017
Here is a helpful chart from Delta which covers all Domestic / Int'l. transfer combos (AND TOTAL TRANSFER TIMES) between T2, T3 & TBIT.
New Bus Routes will help with connections:
- Circular Airfield Bus between TBIT, T2 and T3
- Airfield Bus between T2 and T3
Bus Map
Will there be a SkyClub: Yes, there is one in each terminal. Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse will remain.
- The SkyClub in T2 opened on May 20th (Former AC Maple Leaf Lounge)

- The SkyClub in T3 opened on May 24th (Former VX Loft)

Where Will The Delta One Check In Lounge Be Located:
In T2, there is a small Delta One seating area with refreshments. An agent will escort you from the check in/lounge area through a back pathway up stairs to TSA precheck. Its a shorter walk to check-in at SkyPriority and easier if you have a carry on and don't want to drag it up a flight of stairs. 11/3/17)
Airlines joining DL in T2/3 for landside and departures:
- AeroMexico (T2)
- Virgin Atlantic (T2)
- WestJet (T3)
Landside T2 only, departures from TBIT:
- Virgin Australia
- Volaris
Landside T3 only, departures from TBIT:
- Avianca/Taca
- Copa (effective April 7)
- InterJet
Will there be secure links between T2-T3 and TBIT: Yes, the final plan is to let pax walk between all airside.

also, T 1/2/3 are spaced out a bit more than T 5/6/7/8, so movements in the alleys should be a little easier/quicker

Oh, absolutely, I agree. I meant that DL tried to imply that the passenger experience inside the terminals would be improved in the short term. That's what always was bs.

Know someone who arrived at LAX tonight and they said they had to wait 20 min for their gate to come open and another 20 for a tug to tow them into Gate 38. They arrived 10 min early but got to the Gate 38 30 min late.

DL has just got to get this right. I can put up with a crappy terminal in exchange for not sitting on the tarmac, but if pax get nothing positive in exchange for the move this will generate a lot of resentment.

It's pretty unreasonable to expect that there will never be a tarmac delay ever again. Clearly with more gates, there will be fewer planes that experience such a delay. You might happen to get unlucky and be on one of the flights that has to wait on the tarmac but that doesn't mean "pax get nothing positive" in the big picture.

Security at T2 for non-TSA Pre was over 1 hour today. My seatmate in F said he went to T3 and hustled over when it became clear the wait could damage his itinerary. The Sky Priority line had > 30 people in it with 2 CSR's working line at 7AM on a Sunday with one other employee perpetually barking at people in line to make sure no kettles. Delta One reps started taking us in their section to help ease wait. TSA Pre-Check does not have body scanner like most and metal rod in my femur was setting of detector so I had to get a full body pat down instead of going through body scan like normal. Actually like normal is I don't even set off metal detector but I know it happens now and then. T2 SkyClub has no Espresso machine or The Bar and many outlets not working yet. Overall not thrilled with T2/T3 yet but I know it's all growing pains so I'll be sanguine.

T3 Skyclub
Had not been following this thread or I would have taken some pictures. Spent two hours in T3 Skyclub yesterday while waiting out delayed flight to SEA. My observations of Club:
Signage is not clear -- a standalone banner says it's open without clear instructions where to go to access it. We took elevator (perhaps one of the oldest I have ridden in many years). I think the stairs behind the banner must lead there.
Large number of very friendly staff. We walked in and sat down and staff came over to ask us what we wanted to drink. Got asked twice thereafter if we wanted anything.
Small, thin space -- lots of windows but not a lot of space that is used well.
Not a lot of good seating. A few couches with tables in front of you; a lot of individual stools or seats without any place to put a computer or drink; some of the integrated seats with fold out desks tables. We got a couch. There were individual seats set along the windows. There is a room to the rear that had additional options; I did not go in there.
There were not a lot of people in there -- perhaps a couple of dozen.
There is a bar and it was staffed. Food was all prepackaged to go -- but decent quality and interesting selections. Saw one guy take a dozen Biscoffs and load them into his carry-on -- but who's judging?
