Delta's Operational move from T5 to T2/3 at LAX:

Delta has moved to: T2 and T3 with eventual connector to TBIT (note: there is currently only airside bus service to stay securely between T2 & T3, the walking connector has not been built yet.)

Where to check bags: As of January 13, 2020, non-Sky Priority customers must check their bag(s) at the terminal their flight departs from, unless their flight departs from TBIT, in which case, they must check their bag at Terminal 2. Sky priority customers can check their bag at either terminal. See this link for more information.

Date(s) of move: May 12, 2017 - May 17, 2017

Here is a helpful chart from Delta which covers all Domestic / Int'l. transfer combos (AND TOTAL TRANSFER TIMES) between T2, T3 & TBIT.

New Bus Routes will help with connections:
- Circular Airfield Bus between TBIT, T2 and T3
- Airfield Bus between T2 and T3

Bus Map

Will there be a SkyClub: Yes, there is one in each terminal. Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse will remain.
- The SkyClub in T2 opened on May 20th (Former AC Maple Leaf Lounge)
pix in post 1058
- The SkyClub in T3 opened on May 24th (Former VX Loft)

https://www.delta.com/content/www/en...d-updates.html

Where Will The Delta One Check In Lounge Be Located:

Delta will temporarily offer dedicated check-in space in Terminal 2 (first door closest to T1) while a long-term Delta One experience is finalized.
In T2, there is a small Delta One seating area with refreshments. An agent will escort you from the check in/lounge area through a back pathway up stairs to TSA precheck. Its a shorter walk to check-in at SkyPriority and easier if you have a carry on and don't want to drag it up a flight of stairs. 11/3/17)

Airlines joining DL in T2/3 for landside and departures:
- AeroMexico (T2)
- Virgin Atlantic (T2)
- WestJet (T3)

Landside T2 only, departures from TBIT:
- Virgin Australia
- Volaris

Landside T3 only, departures from TBIT:
- Avianca/Taca
- Copa (effective April 7)
- InterJet

Will there be secure links between T2-T3 and TBIT: Yes, the final plan is to let pax walk between all airside.

I only rode once in each direction but I would guess so. I didn't wait more than 5 minutes either time.

What other terminals do you mean?

DL offers shuttles between T2,T3 and TBIT (on the north side). They seem to be running every 5 - 10 minutes.

There is no connection to T1.

If you need to go 4 - 8, you need to take the shuttle bus to TBIT. Walk to the south side of TBIT to the T4 connector, and walk to your desired terminal.

I like the convenience and small size of BUR, but the little baggage claim sucks. Anything bigger than a CR9 would likely be impossible to off load

T2 Arrival Fiasco

I was on DL440, JFK to LAX on 5-21-17. The flight departed JFK 30 minutes late due to "traffic flow" issues at LAX, but managed to touch down on time at 12:50 PDT. That's when things fell apart.

After we landed, we started what seemed to be an incredibly long taxi and when we finally stopped, we were parked in the middle of nowhere. We then spent the next 90 minutes listening to the pilot tell us about congestion at the gate, equipment and boarding problems and that he expected we should be moving sometime in the next 5 minutes.

When we finally were able to deplane after 90 minutes of sitting in a cabin with very little air conditioning and loud music blaring (apparently the crew though music would calm us down), we exited into a long, crowded jet way with emergency alarms blaring. Nobody from Delta cared less.

The final indignity was when the conveyor belt on the baggage claim stopped working. All in all, it took over 2 hours from wheels down for us to be able to get out of the terminal. At no time did we get reliable information from Delta about what we going on. It was an all around fail.

They absolutely were not "quite clear" about it. Nothing in their promo hinted at "many years" of no-frills amenities and incomprehensible logistics.

DLs pitch was upbeat and self-assured:

Those are immediate benefits as touted. DL has stated publicly and in many news releases that T2/T3 would be updated over the next few years. The agreement with LAX specifically was to renovate T3 over the next few years. Nothing anywhere said that T3 would be on par at day 1 with T5. If it was there would be no 1.9 Billion, that's with a B, upgrade. This has always been about getting more gates and the long-term.

I fly mostly AA and UA, but have a DL flight from LAX in August. I was assuming that everything would be going smoothly by then. But now after studying these daily posts...

If you book a $350 hotel room "under renovation" you deserve to be told what resources will be unavailable. Doesn't matter how many billions (that's with a 'b') they're investing or what instincts their "Pardon Our Progress" signs incite.

Things should be somewhat better by then. DL has already started to band-aid up T3 with new food options like Shake Shack and a new bar, and new seats with power ports. Both Sky Clubs will be open in full. T3 will just down right be terrible until it is torn down and rebuilt in about 7 years but luckily most of the work will involve T3 as T2 just recently underwent a renovation.

T2 didn't seem like it was all that. Sure, relative to T3, T2 is a dream, but those hold rooms seem really really small.

I do expect a fair amount of work in T2 as well, but yes T3 will see a TON!

I just hope I don't end missing the debacle that was 53B

Unfortunately, 90 minutes wait for gate is not that usual at LAX. Just a couple of weeks ago, before the move, I waited 90 minutes for a gate from a flight from OAK that took 45 minutes.

This shouldn't be the new normal tho. DL now has enough gates to support its operations at LAX, with some room for error. Maybe there was construction blocking some gates or something. But it general, waiting for a (Delta) gate at LAX should not be normal anymore.

Will there be a pattern for what flights are at t2 vs t3. Seems like t3 might not fit widebodies which actually bodes well in that wifebodies tend to fly more premium routes and t2 is currently much better...

Wifebodies do tend to prefer premium routes, yes.

In all seriousness, upthread reports are that west coast regional flights to SEA/SFO/etc. are largely T3, and premium/longer haul flights are out of T2. (Basically the flights that were sometimes relegated to T6 in the old world.) Rational, but it does mean connecting in LAX for west coast passengers now is almost a guaranteed bus ride between the terminals. It's all a tradeoff, I suppose...
