Delta's Operational move from T5 to T2/3 at LAX:

Delta has moved to: T2 and T3 with eventual connector to TBIT (note: there is currently only airside bus service to stay securely between T2 & T3, the walking connector has not been built yet.)

Where to check bags: As of January 13, 2020, non-Sky Priority customers must check their bag(s) at the terminal their flight departs from, unless their flight departs from TBIT, in which case, they must check their bag at Terminal 2. Sky priority customers can check their bag at either terminal. See this link for more information.

Date(s) of move: May 12, 2017 - May 17, 2017

Here is a helpful chart from Delta which covers all Domestic / Int'l. transfer combos (AND TOTAL TRANSFER TIMES) between T2, T3 & TBIT.

New Bus Routes will help with connections:
- Circular Airfield Bus between TBIT, T2 and T3
- Airfield Bus between T2 and T3

Bus Map

Will there be a SkyClub: Yes, there is one in each terminal. Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse will remain.
- The SkyClub in T2 opened on May 20th (Former AC Maple Leaf Lounge)
pix in post 1058
- The SkyClub in T3 opened on May 24th (Former VX Loft)

https://www.delta.com/content/www/en...d-updates.html

Where Will The Delta One Check In Lounge Be Located:

Delta will temporarily offer dedicated check-in space in Terminal 2 (first door closest to T1) while a long-term Delta One experience is finalized.
In T2, there is a small Delta One seating area with refreshments. An agent will escort you from the check in/lounge area through a back pathway up stairs to TSA precheck. Its a shorter walk to check-in at SkyPriority and easier if you have a carry on and don't want to drag it up a flight of stairs. 11/3/17)

Airlines joining DL in T2/3 for landside and departures:
- AeroMexico (T2)
- Virgin Atlantic (T2)
- WestJet (T3)

Landside T2 only, departures from TBIT:
- Virgin Australia
- Volaris

Landside T3 only, departures from TBIT:
- Avianca/Taca
- Copa (effective April 7)
- InterJet

Will there be secure links between T2-T3 and TBIT: Yes, the final plan is to let pax walk between all airside.

Have you ever seen a Delta gate boarding? All of the "medallions", their guests, cc holders, lice. No. Difference. Whatsoever.

If not, it sucks.
I doubt that the project includes a tear-down of T-3. Several hundred million dollar remodel/refresh of terminals 2 and 3? Sure. But tearing down and rebuilding T-3 would be a billion dollars plus and, given that it's Los Angeles, would be a 6-10 year construction quagmire. I expect that T-2 and T-3 to get treatment similar to the recent remodel of T-5.

I think T-2 is a remodel. I think T-3 gets torn down and rebuilt. This is certainly years off, because none of this can happen until midfield concourse is built, which is years away.

I don't understand airports like LAX and JFK with their bazillion seperate terminals. Build a new terminal that houses everything under one roof like ATL, SEA, DEN, DFW, etc.

I don't think you meant to include DFW in your list. What with its five separate terminals . . .

I guess the difference is that LAX and JFK were built primarily to serve their own cities' O/D traffic, whereas the others were purpose-built as hubs.

If I'm leaving the airport at LAX, it's actually nice to only have to walk by 5 or 6 gates and be on the street. That's not possible when I arrive home at ATL, but ATL exists for a different purpose and I realize that the configuration at ATL allows me to be able to travel non-stop to hundreds of different destinations on a single carrier.

Now if you are connecting at LAX/JFK particularly to another carrier, then the separate terminals configuration makes it much more of a hassle than it would otherwise, but that's a smaller percentage of the operations there.

DFW connects all terminals with an airside train. No need to reclear security like at JFK and LAX.

There's also an image from the long-term plan, but it makes little to no sense...

That wont be what happens.

I don't see anyway VX stays on that side of the field.

I expect LAWA will add back the 3(?) gates T5 use to have and move the T3 airlines to T6 and a few T5 gates. AA gets most of the space (10 gates or so) for the replacement of the nest.

The international carriers at T2 plus HA ends up at TBIT. (FWIW a 330 wont fit at the old DL/UA current AA gates at T6)

AM/VA/VS/WS stay at T2.

Presumably the other big win of moving DL (or really any domestic carrier) to the north terminals would be easier to balance runway use.

I really like T5 for how quick it is to get in and out of. You can be curb to gate in 5-10 minutes with pre check except at very busy times. I also think the food is now good as others have said, and I also like the high end Western Airlines finishes (marble floors, nice skylights). However, boarding anything larger than a A319 is always a pain unless they are using the large gates at the end. It's just always a mob, and the physical space prevents any real solution. It would also be nice to see Delta offer more nonstop service (ORD, more Europe service, etc).

Isn't that what they basically did at JFK (or was it LGA)?

I'd be fine with this. T4 at JFK is plenty nice, if not the most elegant terminal DL uses, and would indeed be a step up from their current LAX ops.

While LAX could be more of a connecting hub these days (with everything connected airside), there is no space to do this. Look at it on a map; the airport is constrained on every side, and it's pretty amazing they can even fit as many aircraft as they currently do.
