LAX-SJO Breakfast for Dinner in First?

So the flight departs at 12:20am, it's a leisure route to Central America, and it's only about 5.5 hours long.

But it is unclear why when the meal is at 1:15am depearture time it is breakfast. Dinner? Weird, but sure. Breakfast before we land? Makes a lot of sense. But unless you are 8 years old it seems unlikely you want breakfast for dinner.

Anyone know why DL can't serve breakfast at breakfast time?

There's a whole other story about the the 7pm connecting flight from SFO that barely made it in time, getting to the gate at LAX at 11:25pm, but that's just BAU.

The same logic would apply for flights leaving early morning from Europe and getting dinner service.

The only exception is that your flight leaves in the morning and most people want to sleep for the majority of the flight. And I don't know about you, but I'd rather have a nice breakfast knowing I'm landing in the early AM than having a dinner and then arriving for breakfast time.

Besides, who doesn't eat breakfast for dinner??

Can't you ask for your meal before landing?

That would be more of the standard for IFC, not business class, although I've had luck in picking a mid-flight cold plate snack and asking that it be served shortly before landing instead of breakfast on long TPAC routes.

We tried and we're told no.

That's because FAs want to cook the meals all at once. Plus there are food safety issues and rules for when the food can be cooked and then served. You might have had better luck asking for the cold plate to be served to you later in the flight.
