Delta Comfort+ FAQs
Delta Comfort+ - A New Domestic Branded Fare Product

Summary (effective November 14, 2015, for travel on or after May 16, 2016, in the U.S.50 and Canada):

No selecting C+ seats at time of booking. Eligible pax must request a C+ upgrade by checking the box in the UPGRADE REQUEST section or calling Delta. If upgrade inventory is available, DM and PM may clear after booking. If upgrade inventory is not available, you will remain in your C- seat until such time that DL either releases inventory, or it goes to the airport for gate upgrade.

GM and FO window remains the same at T-72 and T-24 hrs respectively.

Upgrades may automatically place you in any C+ seat, including middle.

F and C+ are separate checkboxes, so you can request an F upgrade without requesting a C+ upgrade. "Double upgrades" from Y to C+ followed by C+ to F are possible.

In your My Delta Preferences page there is a new box where you can choose the default setting for 1st class upgrades and C+ upgrade preferences.

Pax with a companion will be ranked for a C+ upgrade according to the highest level... ie a DM + general member companion in the same PNR will clear after booking..

Maximum of 1 companion may request a C+ upgrade. Per DL FAQ: "If you have three or more passengers in your reservation, all passengers in the reservation must have Medallion status in order for any passengers to be eligible for Delta Comfort+."

Amex Companion Cert flyers are eligible for C+ upgrades.

To "downgrade" to C- seats (exit, other preferred seats) you must call Delta.

Complimentary upgrades to C+, once on board the aircraft, are not allowed regardless of status.

C+ currently not available with corporate discounts, because C+ currently uses ticket designator /WCOM and corporate discounts also use ticket designators. A fare code can only have one ticket designator. This limitation is apparently temporary.

So far Delta is saying this does not impact upgrades to F.

Just for grins, I tried a dummy booking DTW-PVD over next July 4, and found C+ was consistently $80 or so more than MC, and F was a further $60, with Basic at a $20 discount, all roundtrip. Now I recognize that based on history next April or May is when the really keen pricing will happen, but $140 is almost to the point where I would pull the trigger for F (I'd do it for $120). Having said that, I'm damned if I'll pay $80 for what amounts to a coach seat from Ye Olden Days plus a drink.

DTW-PHX, and they wanted $89 for E+, to get 2" of leg room and 1 free drink and a pass through the snack basket.

I'm one for occasionally buying A/G fares on mid-con/trans-cons for personal travel where it makes sense, but I see no value and a stupid value prop for E+ in its current form.
well said ^

and don't forget one pass through of the snack basket so you can grab a bag of potato chips and a free drink. Oh, don't forget unlimited free entertainment from DL Studio.

So if anyone is interested... an update from my test booking I placed yesterday.

Approx 2hrs after booking a flight, the outbound segment changed to 'select seat' although I could not select one in C+. The upgrade status changed to 'request upgrade' with nothing selected.

The return segment changed some time overnight to 'select seat' and 'request upgrade' with no upgrades selected. I could not select a C+ seat for either segment, and had no seat assigned at all.

Summary: Their implementation is pathetically broken. Generally the 'select seat' indicates that a segment cleared, although the PNR still displays my original fare bucket and not WU or whatever it is, and the system says I cannot select a C+ seat since it is not in my purchased fare. During the 'upgrade' process, my medallion upgrade requests to F were deleted. This did not occur 'shortly' after booking. One took 2+ hrs, the other over 12 hrs.

So were you upgraded to C+ or not? And were you finally able to choose seats?

My PNR never indicated I was upgrade to C+, and I could not select C+ seats.

However, I did see that a C+ seat was 'assigned' on the seat map for each segment (I picked a flight way out that was empty so its unlikely someone else got a seat at the same time). When I canceled the itin, that 'assigned' seat became available so it must've been mine, but the system never linked it to my record or acknowledged that I could select it... and I didn't like the fact that whatever process occurred removed my medallion upgrade requests.

Seems like nobody actually tested the functionality, or they just don't care.

Were you assigned middle C+ seats in empty cabins? Or did the seats follow your seat preferences in your profile?

The mystery assigned seats were both aisle in the central region of the C+ cabin so it appeared to follow preference at that point at least.

Why bother testing when your customers can waste their time doing the testing for free? It's all about saving money (or being lazy or trying to make changes too quickly).

This is why I made Platinum on AA because there schedule and price latly has beaten delta out of fll. My upgrades are way down and with this new enhancement I lose the ability to confirm my comfort plus seat at time of booking.

wouldn't you think that complimentary upgrades on AA will go significantly down due to the masses defecting?

Here's the response to my complaint:

Thank you for contacting us.

We are sorry to hear that you have been disappointed with our upcoming
changes to Delta Comfort +. We always try to provide quality options on
our flights, and we periodically make changes to the offered items. We
do try to be competitive with our competition; and your feedback about
this aspect of our service will be very helpful as we make future
decisions for our onboard amenities. We are striving to become the
global airline of choice and your comments in this area will help us
achieve this goal.

For flights on or after May 16, 2016, Medallion members and one SkyMiles
member companion in the same reservation will be eligible for a
Complimentary Upgrade to Delta Comfort+. For flights prior to May 16,
2016, Medallion members and up to eight travel companions may be
eligible for complimentary Delta Comfort+ upgrades, when traveling in
the same reservation.
So, they completely ignored what I said, as expected.

I'd rather pay the FCM rate for DL F than pay the sticker upgrade rate for an upgrade to AA F.
