Starting in 2016, Alaska Airlines Boardroom members lose Sky Club access

It's been reported in the AS forum that AS has announced that the current arrangement for AS BR members to use DL SCs will end on December 31, 2015. I'm not sure numerically whether this will affect SC crowding. [AS has arranged for their BR members to use UA lounges in two airports, including MSP, in addition to the current access to AA lounges.]

The obvious question is whether there's reciprocity here or whether there will be a retaliation soon? Specifically, will DL people lose the ability to use the AS BR lounges in four airports, namely ANC (where's there's no alternative), SEA, PDX, and LAX (where the tunnel makes it easy for DL passengers to use the AS BR in T6, and of course it's especially convenient before T6 departures)? BTW, the AS BR lounges seem to belong to PP, so those with AmEx regular Plat/Centurion cards can continue to use them, at least for now. [Also BTW, when did the SFO BR close?]

I expect you mean LAX not SFO.

Anyway, the notice is up on the Board Room page at alaskaair.com:

http://www.alaskaair.com/content/gif...and-hours.aspx

Effective January 1, 2016: Board Room members will no longer have access to the Delta Sky Club network.

This is the longest running breakup in history.

Surprised it took this long.

Thank you. Corrected.

According to this yelp review, June 24th of 2014.

Lucky says it closed when AS changed terminals.

Thanks.....and interesting that the earliest review, from 2006, refers to seven AS BR lounges in their network at that time, when BR members also had access to PMNW, PMDL, and AA lounges too.

I checked the PP app and every AS BR is included...

Not surprised. This is like slooooooooooooooooooooooooowly pulling off the band aid. AS has a lot more utility for us west coasters than just flying to SEA. There is PDX, Hawaii, and some Mexican beach destinations.

Also, the SFO BR closed when AS moved from the Boarding Area B to Boarding Area A in the international terminal.

As an SFO based Delta Flyer, I really, really hope that we, at the very least, maintain the ability to earn miles & MQM's on AS metal. If that goes it would be even harder to stay loyal to DL from here. They are the only option within Sky Miles for nonstop service to PDX, PSP, PVR, and several of the Hawaiian Islands. In other words, they are really important for the West Coast leisure market. That or DL really needs to step up their game from SFO. West Coast based travelers need good and direct access to other west coast cities, and we don't want to fly through Utah to make it happen.

Get used to flying other carriers. DL has enough to handle on the West Coast with the increased capacity in SEA/LAX. They are not going to start adding major international destinations from SFO and don't need to add anything more domestically to an already very competitive market.

This probably spells AS BR access loss as a Skyclub member. My lounge world has again been reduced from what was once a few hundred lounges which included many affiliated lounges to now mere forty eight lounges (guess). My Skyclub lounge network is getting smaller....

Which is exactly why AS fills an important niche here. I do think that the SFO market could handle a little bit more domestic service from DL.

Yup, it's under the "News and Updates" section on Delta's Sky Club webpage:

http://www.delta.com/content/www/en_...d-updates.html

"Starting January 1, 2016, Alaska Airlines will no longer offer Delta Sky Club® members and Delta One™ customers complimentary access to their four Board Rooms."

Interesting note on that page:

For your convenience, we’re opening second Club locations at LAX and SEA in late 2016.

Where would the second LAX SkyClub go?

Very interesting.

-Terminal 6?
-Perhaps the rumors about DL taking over T2 are true?
-A second T5 lounge--where would this go?
-Smaller dedicated Delta One lounges?
