Delta Airlines Narrowbody Fleet Updates Master Thread

Many of you remember seeing/reading the announcement from Delta in January 2014 regarding the Narrowbody fleet upgrade. Links below:

Obviously, there have been many changes since this announcement, such as the 5 additional 757s from Shanghai Airlines, A321 order, charter-config 757s, CS100s, and so on. We will do our best to incorporate these aircraft as more information becomes available.

Aircraft Types:
757-300 [MODS COMPLETE]: The Official Delta 757-300 Interior Mod Tracking Thread
Summary of mods:
  • Seating config change: F24W23Y177 to F24W26Y184.
  • Installation of AVOD, ISP, and winglets.
  • Mods were performed in SAT. Average mod time was 38.9 days.

757-200: The Official 757-200 Interior Mod Tracking Thread
Summary of mods:
  • 75E C16W25Y130 to 75S C16W44Y108, lie-flat seats, Satellite WiFi, PTVs. All 18 aircraft complete.
  • Ex-Shanghai to 75G F20W21Y128 + WiFi. All 5 aircraft complete.
  • 757/75X/75M to 75D F20W29Y150 + AVOD/PTV, ISP, WiFi, new lavs/galleys/bins/PSUs/LED lighting and most with winglets. All 62 aircraft complete.
  • 75A/75M to 75H F20W29Y150 + AVOD/PTV, ISP, Satellite WiFi, new lavs/galleys/bins/PSUs/LED lighting, winglets and ETOPS. All 15 aircraft complete.
  • 75C (Charter config): F72. All 11 aircraft complete.

Notes:
  • 75S mods were performed in VQQ. Average mod time was 39.2 days.
  • 75H mods were performed in ATL/IND. Average mod time was 45.2 days.
  • 75G mods were performed in SAT. Average mod time is unknown. N822DX took 116 days.
  • 75C mods were performed in VQQ. Average mod time was ~84.3 days.
  • 75D mods were performed in ATL/SAT/IND/LCH. Average mod time was ~45 days.
  • 75P mods were performed in VQQ. Average mod time was 45 days. N819DX took longer.


737-800/900: Official Delta B737-800/900 Mods Thread
Summary of mods:
737-800:
  • 737-800s to get AVOD (739/753-style screens), updated lavs, and LED cabin lighting.
  • Mods were performed in IND and ATL. Average mod time was 26.7 days for ex-738s and ~21 days for 73H+.
  • Ex-GOL mods are complete. These are designated 73A's. There will be a second round of mods that will include IFE, seat power, galley/lav updates, and an extra row of Y seats to bring the total to 160.

737-900:
  • 737-900s to get scimitar winglets and Satellite TV.
  • Mods being performed in ATL and MCI. Average mod time is ~14 days.

A319/320/321: The Official Delta A319/A320/A321 Cabin Mods Thread
Summary of mods:
  • Both will get wider economy seats, ISP, bins, and LED cabin lighting.
A319:
  • A319: F12W18Y96 to F12W18Y102 + AVOD.
  • A319 mods were performed in BFM, SAL, and ATL. Average mod time was ~31 days.

A320:
  • A320: F12W18Y120 to F16W18Y123 + AVOD.
  • A320 mods being performed in SAL and MSP. Average P1 mod time was 29.6 days. Average P2 mod time is ~33 days.

A321:.
  • A321 mods being performed in MSP and MCI. Average mod time is ~12 days.

Don't we already have enough 763s with domestic F configurations in the fleet? And is the increase in F capacity really so significant that it merits the cost of redoing the cabin? The F paid load factor is not exactly high. Why not just leave the flatbed seats?

I don't have the Config yet, but with The 12X B763s are bring retired and they're looking for a replacement? Ask N515CR if he knows any more!

Do the majors reuse seats to another a/c in the fleet, or re-sell the premium seats, particularly if they're not that old? It occurs to be that with the problems the supply chain is having with lie-flat seats these days, DL could offload theirs. AA I believe is having some trouble sourcing enough seats for their 767 updates (It may only be the 772 update that has that problem, I don't spend much time following AA).

Yes they do. The B75Hs use the B75E Y seats. UA Hawaii B777 uses the old UA J

Fair question. But if they leave the flatbeds in, then the arrangement between the 4 (I think?..76P?) 763s that are more over-water certified that aren't getting retired as fast won't match the ERs. I guess they could do a re-arragement of galleys/lavs to get to roughly 30 seats without going too far back...?.....who knows.

Maybe it would make more sense for DL to take the (4) 763s that are staying (the non-ERs that fly to Hawaii) and mod those cabins. I believe the overhead bins on those are the same ones upon original delivery and look extremely old. Take those planes, convert them (as best as possible) to a 763ER configuration.

DL has the same configuration for a 772ER and 772LR IIRC.

There's an update in the thread on A.net indicating DL will be keeping 757s 670-684 (except 677) in service beyond 2017.

As the summer comes to a closewe should start to see more and more planes go into mods! 3rd A320 is expected out sometime in September. Haven't been able to keep track on the B738 IFE consolidation. Stay tuned!
