Gate control 24 hours out?

I was just trying to move to C+ from reg Y for tomorrow's flight from CDG to EWR and was told it's not possible since it's too close to takeoff. I've never heard of a flight going to gate control 24 hours out. Have I just been missing something? Just last week I moved to C+ well inside 24H.

Think it's airport control. The issue might be AF as Delta outsourced its check-in, boarding and lounge operations to AF in France. So your dealing with Air France’s ground staff.

That makes more sense. Both people I talked to said to try again when I check in with Air France tomorrow for my first leg. My second flight is definitely Delta metal.

This is quite normal for flights ex CDG

DL ground service at CDG is provided by AF.@:-)

Was that an international flight? One departing from CDG?

It was from EWR to AMS. Delta metal. The last time I was flying out of CDG I was in BE so I wouldn't have noticed on that one.

Ah the fun continues. They are asking for 80EUR to move into C+. It looks like my status dropped from the locator when I checked in with Air France for my first flight earlier this morning and got an AF boarding pass for both flights.

Are AF/KLM elites supposed to get free EC/C+ seats on DL operated flights? If so, this is just AF IT designed to look out for their own people. Good luck trying to get this fixed at the airport.

KLM had done the same to me: having their computers say that I was a base level SkyMiles member. In my case, the result was no meal choice in business class.

According to the FB website, FB members get (cut and paste):

Economy Comfort
Silver: 25% discount on KLM
Gold: 50% discount on KLM
Platinum: free on KLM

Delta Comfort+ on Delta Air Lines flights

Silver: Comfort+ seat free of charge 24 hours prior to departure******
Gold: Comfort+ seat free of charge 72 hours prior to departure******
Platinum: Free of charge at time of booking******

Don't know the status of the OP but looking at the amount and his posts it looks he is a either a Silver or GM??

**** on full-fare tickets booked at least 24 hours in advance and only if all classes (Economy, Business, and when applicable First Class) are fully booked
****** outside these time frames no discounts apply. Basic Economy (E) fares are not eligible for paid or free Delta Comfort+ seats, regardless of elite status.
******* except for Basic Economy (E) fares, which are not eligible for paid or free Delta Comfort+ seats, regardless of elite status.

I'm having trouble decoding all the asterisks here.

What good is free at time of booking for PM+ if it only applies to FULL Y fares when the plane is totally sold out?

Grouchy Jun 1, 2015 8:16 am

My bad, bad copy and paste. The 4 asteriks are related to 'a guaranteed seat in Economy', nothing the do with pref/EC/C+ seats

* for all flights with a weight concept: extra baggage allowance is 10 kg (Silver), 15 kg (Gold) or 20 kg (Platinum)
** except at Roissy Terminal 2E and Terminal 2F for non-Schengen flights
*** lounge access fee varies depending on the airport and access is subject to availability
**** on full-fare tickets booked at least 24 hours in advance and only if all classes (Economy, Business, and when applicable First Class) are fully booked
***** upon member’s request and depending on availability
****** outside these time frames no discounts apply. Basic Economy (E) fares are not eligible for paid or free Delta Comfort+ seats, regardless of elite status.

There's still an apparent problem with the number of stars after each DL elite level.

Grouchy Jun 1, 2015 8:30 am

Did cut of the stars for plat in the orignal post. BTW those are not DL elite levels but FB levels.

MSPeconomist Jun 1, 2015 9:36 am

Golds and Silvers are arguably treated better on DL flights than KLM flights, depending on whether EC/C+ seats are still available close to departure.
