Smile Delta Mileage Upgrade ATL-SFO

Hi everyone,
My first thread on FlyerTalk so please bear with me. I would really like your expertise. Im flying ATL-SFO this Sunday May 17th on Delta flight 1165. I have a mileage upgrade requested. With only two seats left in FC, what do you think my chances are?

Delta Mileage Upgrade ATL-SFO

Given that I'm guessing you're not a DL Elite your chances of clearing are very low. The only changes of clearing is if all DL elites have cleared at this point and it's before the day of departure, as mileage upgrades do not go to the gate.

welcome to FT.
looking at your profile, it seems you are silver medalion.
i had just one upgrade while being silver medalion for ATL-SFO.
when i was upgraded at that time, i knew few DM or PM were not upgraded.
i guess i was lucky or it was some kind of promotion to make me fly more often
so, in general, don't get your hope high, especially with just silver status, but you never know

OP's profile says DL FO, but the answer is probably about the same ... only if all higher elites have cleared before day of departure

You should be able to see the upgrade list, no?

Too far out to see the upgrade list. I called the 1800 number and was told that mileage upgrades carry over to the gate, but from what Ive researched on FlyerTalk that is not true.

ATL-SFO is a relatively elite heavy route, although early Sunday morning shouldn't be so bad. Late in the day on Sunday business people travel for Monday morning meetings, including the consulting crowd.

Thanks to all who replied! FC now down to one. So I will be checking in as soon as possible to get a Comfort+ seat which shouldn't be that bad.

What's the aircraft type? How many total FC seats in the cabin?

It's a route where you'll see DMs in Y on a regular basis. It's pretty much impossible for a GM/FO to get an upgrade.

Before the gate, mileage and medallion upgrades come from different buckets. It's possible (but unlikely) that your mileage upgrade could clear while DMs are still waiting on a medallion upgrade.

If there are still open F seats, you can certainly try to get your mileage UG processed at the gate, but it depends on the friendliness and knowledge of the GA. Can't hurt to ask.

Most likely the F seats will be sold, in which case nobody will get upgraded (medallion or mileage).

I have never once cleared ATL-SFO on a Sunday, even when applying an upgrade cert (which puts me close to top of the pile), as DM.

OP seems to be asking about mileage upgrade, and most responses seem to be about medallion upgrades. They are totally different inventories. OP: as bennos stated, technically you could clear before the gate...up to 3 hours before depature mileage upgrades can be cleared. However, this rarely happens this late in the game on domestic routes, the notable exception being the transcon routes (JFK-LAX/SFO).

In the future, if using a mileage upgrade is important to you, I would try searching for a flight where one is available at the time of purchase.
