Shame on Delta for not banning hunting trophies!

Delta is refusing to follow the lead of South African and other airlines in banning the transportation of hunting trophies.

http://traveller24.news24.com/News/A...o-ban-20150514

The more time I spend in Africa, the more I realize how HUGE the hunting industry in South Africa and bordering territories is. What they call conservation or sustainability here is nothing more than senseless, barbaric, cruelty.

The amount of canned hunting that happens here is UNBELIVEABLE. Hunts involve lions and other species born and raised in cages. When they reach about four years old, they’re loosed into a fenced area of at least 2,500 acres to become targets for hunters using rifles or bows.

Delta hides behind dysfunctional conservation regulation in order to avoid their responsibility, and to avoid making themselves an accomplice to the degradation of African wildlife by an out-of-control hunting industry.

By following the lead of other airlines banning all trophies on their flights Delta will be helping preserve a valuable natural resource that provides one of the primary reasons customers choose to fly Delta to visit Africa and other wilderness destinations.

Perhaps the meat was given to Delta's catering division.

FWIW ... AA does not ship shark fins anymore:

https://www.thedodo.com/shark-fin-am...081457645.html

So there is a precedent of an american based airline banning certain items from their planes regardless of the laws in place.

NOTE to Mods: I disagree on moving this thread to OMNI. Delta is a business and social responsibility aspects are their business. We have discussed Delta serving shark fin soup in the past.

I agree - while the discussion could lead to OMNI territory, moving it before it has had a chance seemed premature. Being able to discuss Delta's social impact (even if political/ethical in nature) should be allowed in the Delta forum.

Also - the OP doesn't have access to OMNI...

Animals in the wild all are faced with a brutal death in the end, either through predation, starvation or other means. A quick death from a hunter's bullet is merciful compared to being mauled to death by a pack of hyenas.

There may be rational grounds to oppose hunting, but concern about "senseless, barbaric cruelty" is not one of them.

This is deeply flawed logically. Hyenas kill to eat, not for fun nor to compensate for sexual inadequacy.

Light em up!

Well it was a different time. However, I didn't say "reproductive fitness", I said sexual inadequacy. For instance, little ones still work as it were.

If the trophies are from non-endangered species, hunted legally, and not other protected goods like ivory... I don't see why Delta or any other airline should engage in a political statement against conduct that is legal both nationally and internationally.

What's next, a "no fly list" for porn stars, or for conservative preachers, depending on the politics of the airline involved? Thanks no.

Not everything you disagree with relates to penis size. Grow up.

PC run amok again.... if people realized the vast majority of the harvested meat from Safari's is donated to local charities; maybe that would impact their position. The true professional safari's (Hilton used to have an award for these) are well run and hunt only over populated species.

I was thinking something similar, except possibly more cynical like wondering if the OP works for DHL or something or just gets this hysterical hand fanning upset over everything, everywhere, ever.
