Delta pricing to NAS

Can anyone offer any experience on whether Delta's pricing to Nassau is historically competitive with other carriers?

I'm searching March 12 to 19 and finding Delta almost $300 a ticket higher than US Airways (DSM). I have $1000 to spend for my Delta frequent flyer account but right now Delta would be $1200 more expensive.

I know that is a long time away and those dates just opened up but that is our local market's spring break and historically there will be no seats on any airline out of the airport that weekend.

I have never flown to Nassau so I have no experience with what a good fare would be. Can anyone offer any insight? I don't want to wait for Delta to come down if it never will and at that point I've missed lower fares on other airlines.

Anybody who can tell you what loads and pricing will ultimately be for flights a year out, is worth $ Millions to an air carrier.

It's absolutely impossible to predict a year out. Generally speaking, lower fares don't kick in until much, much later because people who book this far out tend to be willing to pay for certainty, e.g., they can only travel on school vacation week.

If you need the certainty of space, book now. Otherwise, wait.

Yes, I do understand what you were saying. All I was looking for was if someone had any historical experience that says yes, Delta is typically more expensive to Nassau because American owns that market or something to that effect. Just curious of historical experiences on that level.

Just doing random bookings, I see only a few bucks difference between them from various cities to NAS at various dates.

But you should note that DL often keeps fares high when way in advance. You would likely need to wait until late summer to see if they come down.

Perfect. Knowing the Delta often keeps fares high far in advance is exactly the kind of information I was looking for. I appreciate it.

but of course (and no disrespect to the other posters) please note the emphasis on the word USUALLY. This is not guaranteed by any means.

I'm sure Delta knows that this is spring break week and that they can charge a premium vs flights 2 weeks earlier/later. While prices may drop a little dont expect to find $400 flights anytime soon.

My rec - keep checking back and once you see a fare that you're comfortable with, just buy it.

Another good reason fares are high.

Prices should drop, but failing that check the next closest major airports to you which would be OMA, MCI and then MSP. A 2-3 hour drive might save you a few hundred depending on how many people are going.

Not really. ALL airlines sell out but Delta is +$200 right now over all other airlines for the same route, same dates.

So if Delta can capture an extra $200 why wouldn't they? They are fine letting AA and UA capture the "low fruit" and waiting out until the other carriers fill up.

Exactly. On many of the routes I fly I find DL to be usually more expensive. Since their planes are full and they are charging more, they appear at the moment to be better at revenue mgmt than their competitors (albeit only based on the routes on which I travel/my observations).
