DL 2609 Diversion Today

Can someone please tell me why DL 2609 has been diverted to BNA?

It seems odd as it was relatively close to ATL.

Thank you.

My guess is the storms in ATL. This is probably not the only divert today.

Pilot says "due to weather" - looking at radar, seems accurate to me.

There have been dozens (perhaps hundreds) of diversions today due to thunderstorms over the ATL airport.

Diversion cities include: HSV, BHM, CHA, BNA, SAV, GSP, MGM, CLT, TYS and others.

Currently I'm sitting in CHA with about 20 other DL and DLC planes....good times on a Friday night.

I watched 5 DL diversions to GSP that all landed within about 30 min this evening.

It's the "pre-season" for diversions in the southeast for airports within 200 miles of ATL. The "regular season" is June, July, August when the pop-up, slow-moving T-storms hit ATL multiple times per week.

This a preview of coming attractions. I was diverted to Tys, sat just long enough to miss my connection to phx. Hotel rooms and rental cars are in short supply!
