F Class Water Bottles Repo'd for Takeoff

Delta Connection SEA - LAX on 3/11

Right before the plane pushed back the FA in F class came through asking for everyone's mini water bottle back. She indicated that the water bottles would be returned after takeoff.

Here are my favorite responses from the FA when questioned...

"It's a new thing they're doing before takeoff"
"I'll bring you a fresh one after takeoff"

The water bottles were not returned.

I usually stuff mine between my hip and the seat to keep it snug & secure (and out of the FA's line of sight).

Noticed this happened on a SFO-LAX Delta Connection flight 2 weeks ago....was too early in the morning for me to ask more questions....but other passengers in FC sure did. "New Policy" they were told.

As I'm a big believer in FCM I automatically drop mine into my bag for later.

This seems to be a DL Connection thing.

I've seen it only once, and it was in the last few months. Think it was SkyWest.

I thought this was one of those "The FAA will personally fine me $10,000 for letting you keep them (as a safety hazard)!" deals?

Don't think so, had the same issue happen on my SEA-AMS last week in J.

That's my trick! It keeps the water bottle safe and handy and far from the seat pocket in case the FA is obsessed about that.

Doesn't SEA-AMS use an aircraft that has a particular little cubbyhole for the water bottle? AFAIK all of the BE seats in international wide body DL aircraft have a special spot for the water bottle. The seat would look empty without the water bottle to fill in and decorate its place.

Yes the new BE seats have holders. I always just put it in my bad or in seatback pocket with top sticking out, no issues. I would frankly be annoyed to have it taken away when you often don't see the FA's again for another 30 minutes.

Did not really pay attention to a specific cup holder. FYI this was a 333, not a 763.

I've seen water bottles go flying back a few times on takeoff when people have forgotten to stow them. They should be fine in the seatback pockets as they are under 2 lbs.
