.
An aircraft skidded on the runway at LaGuardia Airport and crashed into a fence as a blinding wintry mix coated the region Thursday morning, Port Authority officials and sources familiar with the situation tell NBC 4 New York.
It wasn't clear how many people were on the Delta plane when it slid off the runway around 11 a.m., nor was it known if it was landing or taking off. There was no immediate word on injuries.
Photos posted to Twitter and other social media showed the tail of the plane dipping into the snow; it's nose was pointed to the air.

DL 1086 from ATL-LGA. No injuries reported.

Looks like it's more than "skidding" off the runway. This looks like an overshoot.

Flight 1086 from Atlanta to LaGuardia slid off the left side of runway 13 Thursday morning. The flight was scheduled to land in New York at 11 a.m.

Thank heavens no one was hurt, but why could it not have been a CRJ?

clr4t8koff Mar 5, 2015 9:33 am

Glad nobody was hurt!

This ends DL's streak of having no crashes. Anyone recall the last crash DL had?

Yeah, the pictures look like it's in a tail down, nose up position, with the nose on the ground in the fence. There seems to be a big bump at the end of the runway, just before the fence. There's surely damage to the aircraft. Some are saying that "a wing is broken."

BTW, LGA seems to currently be closed to traffic.

Local news reporting lots of bumps and bruises but no major injuries, thankfully.

Chances are that most of the CRJ-200 flights anywhere between Texas and Maine were cancelled today. That's how they survive.

MD-88 N909DL

The aircraft was expected to next operate DL1685 LGA-MCO, and that flight still shows "on time" for 11:45 on delta.com.

Interesting as I never ever recall landing on Runway 13 there.

A photo on www.NYPOST.com shows the front end of the plane on top of the berm at the end of Runway 13. Without the berm, the plane would have ended up nose first into Flushing Bay. This incidentcould have been ALOT worse.

This will probably close down the runways.
