Which flight to get to Snellville, GA?

Evening friends,

I'm travelling MAN-ATL and need to be in Snellville, GA between 5 & 6 pm on a Tuesday evening. Given I'll need to clear customs, collect a bag & pick up a rental car, how late can I realistically land in ATL and still make it to Snellville by 6pm latest? Flying cheap Y ...

Kayak has the following options for me ex-MAN:

arr ATL 1405, Lufthansa ex-FRA
arr ATL 1416, Delta ex-AMS
arr ATL 1425, Air France ex-CDG
arr ATL 1445, Virgin ex-MAN

Any experiences/advice folks?

Many thanks,

FL

Any of those will work, Snellville is about 1 hr if traffic is ok, it traffic is bad then through another 30-45 mins on top.

If you are renting a car check your map routes carefully, don't go straight through downtown, it is likely to be faster to take I-285 around the perimeter and then head East on Highway 78 for the least headache.

Good Luck in Snellville, where I understand "Everybody is Somebody!"

You'll be right at the beginning of rush hour if you're on the road by 4 PM. I would allow at least 1.5 hours, depending on which interstate. Snellville is about 40 miles from the airport, but it could be more depending on the exact location.
My preferred route would be 285 to 78. Good luck!

There's only a difference of 40 minutes between the earliest, and the latest flight you mention, and any one of them could easily be 30 to 60 minutes late. Aren't there any other factors in your decision process, such as, price, mileage program, quality of connecting airport, layover time, total flying time, etc?

Oh, absolutely Dave - the VS direct from MAN is the most attractive for several reasons, but it's also the latest to arrive. The 2 replies above have given me encouragement, though ...

Thanks,

I'd look at the connecting times in AMS, CDG, and FRA. A connection introduces an additional risk of delays and cancellations compared to a nonstop.

The other thing you need to consider is the chances of delays. Given the fact that this seems to be a very crucial engagement, I would choose the one that would be the least problematic if there are delays.

I would choose either the VS direct or MAN-AMS-ATL based on that.

With the VS flight since it is direct, there are fewer chances for things to go horribly wrong.

For any connection, if something happens to your first flight, you may miss the connecting flight completely. The 2.5 connection time in AMS gives you the most cushion in the schedule. You shouldn't even consider the 65 minute connection in FRA.

You have more than 3 hours which normally would be enough for comfort. Keep in mind that getting a rental car from the international terminal involves a 15 minute shuttle bus ride, and shuttle buses are spaced about 10-15 minutes apart.

If possible, make sure you are enrolled in a rental car membership program where you can just pick up the keys and drive away, and avoid checking any bags.

in a case like this where OP has a commitment after arrival, it's much wiser to minimize the chance of disruptions en route ... i.e., take the nonstop MAN-ATL

Gosh I wish I had seen this earlier to be first to post their slogan. No DYKWIAs there for sure, because everybody is somebody. :D

That bring back great memories from the 90s!

Any particular reason you don't want to take the direct Delta MAN-ATL that arrives at 2:28? Possibly not available that day or something?

Also keep in mind that getting the bus to the rental car center from international baggage claim (terminal F) is a PITA and can take quite a long time.

The only direct flight I can find, lovecabo, is the VS arriving 1445. AFAIK the direct flight changes from DL to VS for the summer timetable, part of the JV I assume.

The direct VS is looking like my most likely at the mo.

It's been said before but let me strongly reiterate. Take 285 to 78 and NOT 75/85 North through Atlanta.
